I have on 03 6mt
I had the transmission rebuilt.
Installed a brand new OE Exedy Clutch Kit w/ the flywheel resurfaced.

Originally i can only go into 1, 3, 5 and 6th, the rest were just locked out and grinding, hence i had the tranny rebuilt.

After the rebuild of the tranny and was installed back on the car, they said they encountered a problem where the car would have a hard time getting into 1st and reverse. Reverse also pops out unless you hold it in gear or find the "perfect" shift into reverse. They said they inspected everything and it all seems fine but noticed the bushing under the shifter was broken and need to be replaced. they quoted me $300 for the work ($200 for the shifter linkage from dealer and $95 for labor).

i know i can get the ES bushings for it for $30 and do it myself. (i pulled the car out so I can assess it more without getting ripped off but at least I still have my warranty on the transmission and the parts that were replaced.)

anyhow, I can shift though all the gears without any noises or chattering BUT i have a hard time engaging into first or second gears during a stop or a roll. Normally, when engaging first you depress the clutch all the way and you can go into first...sometimes i can do this but most of the time its locked out. BUT i can engage it all the time if i depressed the clutch and simultaneously go into first gear, only then will everything work fine.

Second problem, Reverse. it doesn't go in smoothly i have to find the sweet spot otherwise it will chatter OR it will pop out. IF i hold it in gear and force it while i'm in motion, it will have a really big THUD going into the "sweet" spot then all else is fine.

The shop knows about these issues but insist that it needs the cable replaced because the bushing under the center console is cracked. Since I was quoted $300 for it, i decided it would be an easy fix BUT i highly doubt its just the bushing. for now, i ordered the ES bushing kit for the linkages and see if there are any improvements with my issues otherwise I'll have to bring it back to them for further diagnosis.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
