Warpspeed y-pipe Flex pipe question
Warpspeed y-pipe Flex pipe question
I've got a quick question for members with the warpspeed y-pipe.
I've got friend who bought 2 Warp speed y-pipes 1 for him and the other for his wifes car. Both are 2000 fed spec.
When he got the y-pipes the flex pipe was different on both of them.
I wondered if anyone has dealt with this and if one is better then the other.
Mine have the smaller flex pipe section but one of them he ordered has a big flexpipe section.
I wondering if this is a really old model of it or maybe a new design.
Guessing it wont make much difference but the one with the bigger flex pipe is really flexible compared to the shorter one.
Here are the pics.
Also it might be hard to tell but there both the exact same length y-pipe and weld look good on both just one flex pipe is about 4 inches longer and bigger diameter on the outside. Inside diameter is still 2.5"
On a very odd side note that is dirt on my toe nails lol i was working on digging a hole for a small pond when he came over lol.

I've heard none are created equally but DAMMMM Lol I'm willing to bet one doesn't line up as nice as the other too.
I'd put one with longer flex pipe on my and other on my wifes jus cuz mine would see lot move abuse and long flex pipe would give more flex with motor movment.

Yeah i told him to bring both to the shop and which ever one fit better just use that one and then i can weld / fix the other if there is any issues.
It's really hard to tell with out bolt it up to the car but it does seems they might be and different length from the front pipe to the collector but just hard to see with them side by side since the longer flex pipe makes it look like a optical illusion lol.

last pic, look at the bottom where it mounts to the cat. Looks to me like the orientation is off...
The longer flex one looks proper, the other looks like it's off by about 60* or so. They are both on the ground at the same angle so they should both look the same where they mount to the cat. (unless that fitting is supposed to be loose)

Yep your correct the end flange is rotatable so i just didnt have then lined up the same when i took the pic.
I'm going to install the one with the bigger/longer flex pipe first since i think it being alittle more flexible will make it easier to install then the one like mine with the small flexpipe but find out on saturday.

I still have an original Cattman flex and as I recall it is shorter like the one on the left in the bottom-most picture. If your engine mounts are worn then the flew will get more wear than it should. Mine are worn and it is holding up anyways lol
Well installed the Warpspeed Y-pipe with the longer flex pipe, Magnaflow cat and SRS RE exhaust.
Took about 3 hours to replace it all.
Luckly i was replacing everything since other then the y-pipe nuts the rest of the bolts and nuts on the exhaust were too rust to even try to take off since they just fell apart lol. So i just used a tail pipe cutter and cut the exhaust at 3 places and removed it all.
I would have install everything in less time but i think the SRS exhaust was welded wrong or something since the pipe that bends over the rear axle was touching the body on the top causing vibration and rattling.
to solve that i went and bought longer rubber muffler hangers there just like factory but are about 3/4 longer and brought the muffler down a little to bring the pipe down so it doesnt touch now.
On the plus side the Warpspeed pipe fit like a dream so that was nice.
Luckly it all went on perfectly.
The rear gasket that came with the warpseed didn't seem to fit right for me i just didnt like the way it look. So i just grabbed a standard 2.5" 2 bolt exhaust gasket and installed it instead and it sealed up nicley and the gasket help center the pipe so no leaks.
Also taking the car back in tomorrow on the lift to second check all the nuts and bolts tightness now that i drove all over the place today and allowed it to heat and cool a few times.
So i will take pictures of the y-pipe and full exhaust that was installed also.

As promised here are the pics of the installed warpspeed Y-pipe , Magnaflow high flow cat (ordered with warpspeed pipe) and SRS dual tip exhaust.
You will also notice the pick of the middle rear hangar where the SRS exhaust bends i installed a second hangar since it seemed to move side to side more then i wanted it too causing the exhaust to bang on big bumps.
Doing this made the exhaust tight as a drum and solved the problem perfectly also after putting it on the lift today and having some one rev it up and checked for leaks all is perfect i've put around 175 miles on it since the install 2 days ago.

whats going on currently at a shop and shop is telling my the ws-y-pipe is hitting the LTB Stage II,
straight from blehmco, is this shop just not experienced???
or is every car different........
Stage II
This one is a bit more complex. It bolts onto an additional frame mount behind the control arms to provide more strength and reduce chassis flex even more. You don't lose any more ground clearance, but you do gain several more steps up the ladder in the handling department.
For 3rd gens, this requires a small amount of grinding on the left side gusset to fit, but does not alter or weaken the structure of the car at all--you simply have to enlarge one hole by about 2mm for one of the mounting points to fit properly. For 4th and 5th gens, this is a simple 15 minute install (assuming you have air tools and a jack).
Current fittments WILL Clear all aftermarket Y-pipes (Warpspeed Performance, Cattman, Stillen), but will NOT clear the Cattman headers on the 4th gen. I'm working with a customer in redesigning the 4th gen bar so that it will fit. If you have these headers or plan to purchase them, stay tuned and I'll have a design that fits.
