SRS exhaust drones alot. Options?

So i installed the warpspeed y-pipe , magnaflow cat and SRS dual tipped exhaust on friday and i'm used to loud cars but this things drones like mad and is actually alot louder then i was expecting.

I love loud exhaust at full throttle but the problem with this exhaust is it drones/loud right around 1800 rpm to 2400 rpm which sadly is right where the engine is normally at when going up hills and in town driving.

After reading a few threads sadly after i have installed the exhaust i see a few people had this problem before so i guess i might try and go with a Dynomax VT muffler and hopes that might solve the problem.

Has anyone had any reviews on the VT muffler i heard that they had a issue with the valve rattling but they show on there site they have fixed that issue so will see.

Another option is a 6" magnaflow resonator section. Cmax has fitted one into his Catman setup and sings its praises.

I might have to try this first since the resonator that does come with it is maybe a 4" round body one so a six might just do it.

Oops, good catch! Neglect that people still run a 2.5" system. Doh!

Having the exact same issue with my SRS although everything from the cat forward is stock so I don't think I'm as loud as you OP. The exhaust note is fine and I don't mind the subtle drone when I'm by myself but when I put the wife and son in the car for a longer drive it can get to be a little much at times. I need to measure the SRS resonator section to see what will fit in there. I was thinking of a Magnaflow 4" or 5" but the 6" may be a better option if it fits and does rattle around in there.

Cmax installed the 6" canister, 18" long. He had to add some piping to fill the length of the Cattman section and also clear the floor board cross support. Just do an advanced search in the 5th gen section for the Carltonator! LOL!!

Sounds good i will start with a bigger resonator and then if that doesnt work i will go with the VT muffler.

Downfall of the VT muffler is that they don't Have 2.5" inlet / outlet center muffler.

Since my current SRS muffler is a center inlet dual outlet i need a center inlet muffler for everything to line up with the exhaust. I took measurments and if i use a muffler where the inlet is not center the outlet wont be lined up with the opening in the bumper.

They do have a 3" inlet , 3" outlet center muffler that would work i would just need to use a 2.5" to 3" exhaust adaptor on the muffler which would work.

Well after 1 week of having the exhaust on i'm starting to warm up to it lol.

At 45 mph and 65 mph which i drive at alot the exhaust is actually whisper quiet its just around 1700 to 2200 that its loud on the inside.

At full throttle though the exhaust screams and is pretty nice.

It also has a very nice low rumble at idle which the neighbor agreed sounds better then his f-150 with flowmaster on it lol.

i think i will probally just go with a bigger resonator for now and keep the muffler since to be honest it looks sweet with the dual 3 inch tips.

There really isn't alot of room doe a longer resonator but as said i can probally go bigger in outer diamer to maybe mellow it out.

If I had my exhaust to do over again I would go with the biggest resonator that fits. So +1 to a big res

I also have an SRS catback and the drone used to bother me until I found a free and easy fix. If it starts bothering me I turn the volume **** on my radio in the clockwise direction. This has been kid tested and approved since three of mine rode in the car to and from school and it bothered them too.

Ok so i decided to put a different resonator on the car today to see if i can get the DB's (noise) down just a bit.

I wanted to order a magnaflow one but didn't feel like waiting a week for it to get here so i went down to the local speed shop (Sublime performance) and picked up a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator part #1411.

The factory resonator on the srs exhaust is 10" long and 3" round body which really doesn't leave much room for resonating material since there exhaust is 2.5"

The vibrant resonator is oval and is 4.75" high and about 7" wide and is also 10" long.

I was hoping for a longer length resonator but the vibrant ultra quiet only come in this length but since the body of it is so much bigger i figured i would give it a try.

The body of the resonator fits in the exhaust tunnel just fine and the sound difference is great.

The car has no more drone now at the 1700 to 2200 rpm range but at full throttle still sounds wonderful and also took the little bit of rasp there was when flooring it at high rpm.

Is this resonator bolt on or does it involve welding? If it does do you know of any bolt on resonator to solve the drone issue
