Car hit in street .. what to do

Just awoke to my sister coming in to tell me she thinks somebody hit my car.... followed by my parents saying some lady moving in down the road smashed into it because she was distracted by her daughter. My dad claims that its most likely totaled. She hit the right rear quarterpanel and door. I refused to go look at it because.... Well I dont want to have nightmares.

I cant afford for it to be totalled. Insurance might give 3000 for it and im in it 6000 or more. Brand new tires all around and what not. Ill update tommorow with pictures but im so sad (((

Park in the street, huh?

That sucks soooo much.
I know you had more plans for your ride too.
Get the police on her and get some info ASAP.
Take whatever off of the car that you can.
De-mod it. Insurance won't let you touch it after they get wind.

Anyways I have been car, shopping because I cant sleep. There is a 97 5mt with 77k I have my eye on. I think with this next maxi ill be shooting for cosmetic mods i.e. lip kit, coilovers, rims more, than power. Been eyeing those 4th Gens, alot lately! And no theres no other kind of car I want... Im in love

Holy Christ, another ****ing dumb *****. So sorry to hear it man! This is how my last car (01 Infiniti I30) was totaled. Got hit in the parking lot (hit and run) in the right rear quarter panel. Then I drove it around like that, for god knows how long until one day my friend saw it.

Way my parking spot is setup near my house, I never even see the passenger side of the car unless I purposely walk on that side. Usually I go right to the driver door, get in, leave in the morning. So when this happened to me I didn't even know until I was giving my boy a ride and since he got in on the passenger side he saw it and said "Hey, what happened to your car?"

Those words, will make your blood chill. Long story short, I go over there only to see my rear right quarter panel completely mangled with a huge hit and dent.

Insurance is a POS too, they gave me $4500 for a totaled 2001 I30 with 150k miles in great condition. Well, that's not true, my tranny was slipping at the time.

Hmm, I'd reckon you'll be very lucky if there is no frame damage? Or has that already been pretty much established? How hard was the hit?

The best thing I can ever recommend is THIS -- Don't EVER let the insurance take the car to their shop. Always take it to your shop where you know someone. This way they can't claim "Oh, it's totaled" because of frame damage, and try to lowball you and take your car to sell it or whatever, you have that control cuz even if frame is damaged your boys at the body shop can still fix it for cheap, instead of totaling it. Depends on how bad it is.

If not for my slipping tranny in the I30, I would have kept that car, got it fixed for $1500-2000 and still had another $2k + for mods. Instead, I let the insurance take it to their shop and total it, because it was ****ed anyway.

Dude I know you really don't want to read any of my crap right now, so just GOOD LUCK!

^^^^^ Everything he said plus keep receipts for recent parts that were put on the car (not mods). If it is deemed totaled, provide receipts to insurance who will give extra for the payout. I did this when my dad's car was totaled with new tires and front brakes.

I really don't see how insurance totals these cars out like that, all that need is a new bumper, rear right quarter, trunk, and tail light. If you really wanted to you can get all the parts for roughly 500-800$ then labor and paint...that's if there isn't any frame damage.....

Good sir all you have to do is find a totaled max with a good rear quarter panel, zip if off, have the body shop zip yours off, mount weld, sand, bondo, prime and paint. Iv seen people selling rear quarters on craigslist for 100$ and any good body shop should be able to transplant. Ya dig? so chill with the seriouslys

Well it's actually moss from the constant flow of water down the street as we are at the bottom of a hill. And yea it was an escalade she hit me with... So now I'm car shopping like crazy. Found this earlier: http://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/cto/3871339282.html

I just got in a similar accident in my SE 6sp @ 138k miles. $2, 477.04 is the check I got. Not totalled. I say if there is no frame damage keep the car. If you have to buy it back then so be it. No frame damage means this is an easy call. Keep it.

Sucks. Likely totaled. If you are ever upside down in a car loan you should purchase gap.

I'd say the repair is at least $4k. Insurance total cars when repairs are 75% of the blue book value. If they do total it, they will give you additional money for repairs that you can prove (i.e. have receipts) are within the last 6 to 9 months.

If you can, de-mod the car before the insurance company sees it, sell the tires, etc.
