Replace the Input Shaft Bearing for $70
Replace the Input Shaft Bearing for $70
The Input Shaft Bearing Noise was driving me crazy so decided what most people would not want to do which is to drop the tranny and open it up and to remove the noisy bearing myself.
Well in my case it was either paying a shop $ 2400 and do all the labour or paying them $800 if i brought them the tranny myself or pay $70 for the bearing and doing the work yourself while taking your time and pictures for reference and having the FSM handy and gaining the experience. Well i choose option #3 and did it all myself and when i took the car for the drive the annoying ISB noise was completely gone and the car sounded like a brand new vehicle.
The entire cost was under $100 including a bearing a seal and a brake cleaner but the experience of doing all yourself is priceless.
Its not that hard guys whoever is thinking of doing this job and if you take your time and take a lot of pics that would help with assembly then just go for it.
Pics are coming..

Definitely would like to see pics and write-up.
Btw, that quote is about what I got to rebuild mine if they were dropping the trans.
I just went used and did the work myself. So, I have a busted up trans sitting around. I'm thinking about rebuilding it myself...

Yes for sure. Download a copy of the MT FSM, open up the tranny and have a look at the bearings to determine which once are shot and replace them. I dont pull wrenches for living and it wasn't that difficult at all, just maybe little time consuming.
