axle boots

So I need new ones...driver side tore and throwing greese around rim.. had replaced just recently...but tore in only 25k or so miles...had mechanic do it so not sure if poor replacement boots were used or mechanic error.. but stock lasted 97k...think worth it to just get dealer set? Thanks to any experts in advance that may be able to help...I have a 2000

depends on how long has it been torn before you noticed, you might be better off buying a new CV axle. Since CV Boot are pain in the butt replacing it, because it has to be clean and repack with cv axle grease and new boot clamp. Generally they shouldn't tear if it was replace, since they are made of some kind of neoprene rubber that resist against road grime, ozone.

if clamped on correctly, they should last a long time, although rubber is at the mercy of the elements and they aren't indestructible

That's the key, clamped correctly. Sometimes the clamps aren't set properly and will allow the boot to turn at one end and this will cause the boot to rip.
