Rear rotor issues
My 2001 max rear rotors are shot. I recently replaced the master cylinder. Want to replace the rear rotors ONLY not pads. Do I still need a compression tool for the pads or can I just take off the caliper assembly and let it hang with support(coat hanger), take off the rotors and just reattach the caliper assembly? I am trying to do this myself. Thanks for any input.

You will most likely have to remove the pads to re-install the calipers on a new rotor. The new rotor will be slightly thicker and the caliper will have to be turned in a little so you can get the caliper back on. Also, I HIGHLY recommend you go ahead and replace the pads as well. If your rotor was bad, then chances are it has worn your pads unevenly or caused some variations in the braking surface. Pads are cheap...
Also make sure you wash down any new rotor with break cleaner. They come packed with machine oil on them to prevent corrosion before you buy them. Lubrication on a braking surface is a bad thing.
**Edit**
Just FYI, most part stores will rent you the brake tool for free. You will have to pay a little up front but they refund your money when you return it. AutoZone and Advance both have this service. I'm unsure about other parts stores but I imagine they aren't the only ones.

Also, if a rental caliper tool to compress the piston is unavailable to you, one of these will work too. They're only $9 and they attach to any 3/8 socket wrench.

The Maxima do not have Parking brake shoes, that why they have a cam lever on the caliper that will lock the piston when you pull the e brake handle. there are no "adjustment"
