2000gle transmission problem

2000gle transmission problem
My GLE has 16" wheels.
A few months ago it threw a P0270 code. I changed the VSS. The one that came out had the orange gears as did the one I installed.
It runs fine, no strange shifts, no missed shifts, etc. The worst part is that it has gone in limp mode about three times. In limp mode, the speedo shows 23mph. I would think limp mode would be 20mph.
Recently, I was on O'Reilly's site and I noticed they had a VSS for 16" tires with green gears. Could the problem be that simple?

ETA: Does the ECM have to be reflashed after changing the VSS?
I also changed the other speed sensor. The magnetic one that looks like a crank sensor.
