My car stalls in the winter time ... could use some advice

Hey guys,

I've experienced this about 6 times in the last two months.

I'll try & recreate the scenario.

I'm approaching a red light ... so I either downshift into second gear or apply the brakes.

I will then put the car into neutral and the engine slows down to 1000 rpm ... then it just keeps dropping while in neutral until it stalls?!?

I have a SI, Cattman Y & HKS exhaust.

Can the cold weather have n e thing 2 do with it?

Tkx in advance!

That happens fairly often on my NX2000 now, although it never quite stalls out, and only happens when I've got the clutch depressed while I'm rolling to a stop. The RPMs drop drastically, and I can feel the engine flutter, but then it picks back up a normal idle. Once the engine is warmed up, it goes away. Generally, it only starts doing this when fall rolls around, and goes away when the weather warms up a bit.

It didn't used to happen when the car was new, but just started about three or four years ago. It's not that annoying to me, since my normal commute involves just a couple stoplights before I'm on the interstate, so I've never had it checked out.

There is a TSB on cold idle drop. I'm not sure if that's what you're experiencing but it sounds like it. There is a new ECU program that corrects it.

cold idle drop...

if you let your car idle for a 2 mins, you will see drop and the engine will kind of stumble then level out at ~800-1000.

If you happen to already be driving (before the car drops down to the warm idle), the car will hiccup or hesitate. if you happen to be changing gears, the car will stall.

cold idle

I had a cold idle problem last winter on my 2000 I30. Start engine, shift into R, idle drops like a rock from 1200 to zero. There was a TSB on this and the dealer "reprogramed" the ECU. No problem since.
