Caliper problem or what?

Recently I found my right rear brake doesn't work very well, evidence? RR rotor much cooler than other 3.

I was told that I might have a stuck caliper. OK, I checked everything on RR brake, lubricant well, moving fine, but only I couldn't backwind the caliper piston.

I used backwind tools and my muscle, then, it's done. piston never move again. I just assume that it is broken already.

I bought a new caliper and installed it today, something I never seen before happened.

Of course, I bled it first. But the new caliper still can't hold brake pads tightly. When my wife push all the way down of brake pedal, the piston moves out, but the distance is shorter then Left Rear piston. Then when my wife released the brake pedal. Left side piston doesn't backwind significantly, but RIGHT side(the new one) backwinded a lot! leave a big gap between pads and the piston.

This happens too when my wife was holding brake pedal down and I opened the bleed valve ---- the piston backwinded.

Why is this ? I'm out of my resources......help needed. Thanks in advance.

Did you bleed the brakes?

Hqad an issue recently after replacing rotors and pads. Not sure if it helps or not, maybe you had air in that caliper before swapping it. Try to bleed the system again with ABS fuses pulled. Read here: https://maxima.org/showthread.php?p=8825583#post8825583

EDIT: When all was said and done, mass amounts of air was found in the RR line.

updates: it works perfectly now. but.......I don't know how.......

The caliper was still loose, but i have to go work tomorrow, what so ever, I took a test driving see if 3 brakes can put me on road.

It starts with a spongy sink brake pedal, as I expected so. I hit brakes really hard for 5 - 6 times. All of a sudden, the feedback from foot brake pedal changed! very firm and steady. WTF????

Then I took RR wheel off again and checked the new caliper, it holds the pads as firm as it should be, seems no problem at all!

Who can tell me what is going on here?!

Did you check the caliper guide pins on both sides? They typically bind up which doesn't allow the caliper to float correctly. You should pull them out of the torque member, clean, degrease and reinstall them with every brake job.

Pins checked, don't seem a problem. Some one told me that I have "reseated" my new caliper. I'm not quite sure what that will do ? good or bad?

now e-brake seems hard to pull:

yes, the new caliper's piston holds pads well, foot padel seems just fine when braking. (Someone told me that I've re-seated the caliper piston, good or bad? don't know)

But parking brake lever on new caliper seems has a very limited range of moving. that leads the e-brake handle very hard to pull up.

Frankly speaking, I'm so tired of this Maxima parking brake design, it always give me a hard time to figure out what's going on in it. .......
