fuel mileage

Hello everyone. I have an 02 se with auto trans and 6000 miles on it. I am really dissapointed with my gas mileage so far, I have only been geting 22.8 on the highway and 20.5 in the city. My mpg digital readout always stays on 25.3. I have not noticed any performance problems, and yes I do run 91 octane. What is your mileage? does it match your digital readout? Thanks

Put an intake on and lower mpg??? WTF?

Anyway I run no less than 24 MPG at 85 mph on the highway.

Re: fuel mileage

You're lucky. I get 18.5mpg on mostly city driving. The most i got on highways is 19.8 and i was doing 70mph.

I run on 93 Octane. If anything it's probably just the additives they put on the car during winter. It's well known to lower the mileage a bit.

As for the intake eating up more gas. It does, only because owners tend to rev the engine more every single time to hear that awesome sound - so they say

The intake, if it's not a CAI does use more gas. You lose some low end power with just a pop charger intake, but you gain on the high end. So that makes every day driving chew up more fuel because your compensating for the less power by stepping on the gas a bit more.

I hear you my brotha! My MPG also sucks....have just under 3k miles on the car, and been running 91 octane. After the tank is dry have never gotten better than 21MPG. Most of my driving is highway (although of the Houston variety.)

The trip computer is a well documented piece of optomistic garbage, and is generally off by at least 4mpg

It brings to mind that old Maxima commercial: Albuquerque to Phoenix-400 (or whatever)miles.....Tanks of gas....1 HA! Not in my car it isn't.

so, u mean for intake, use more gas in city drive, for the CAI, more gas in the highway....

My average is 19 mpg. Have 6k on the car. But then again I am one of those who like to put my foot into it. Can't drive slow so I know my mpg is gonna sux. Don't pay much attention so don't know if digital read out is accurate, but I will pay attention next time and see.

Use synthetic oil, gain 3 mpg, and after engine breaks in, say 13000 miles, miles improve... and all the other stuff you can do to save gas. like drive slow and don't floor it.. but who does that? I get 26mpg on highway driving 85mph or 31mpg driving 60mph for the whole tank.

No, the CAI gives overall performance gains across the board. The low end drag isn't there. So mileage isn't an issue with CAI. Only if your right foot gets heavier after you install it!

I have a 99 GXE auto and I get 22-23mpg no matter what gas I use: 87, 89 or 93. I do notice that 87 sucks and no real difference between 89 and 93 for me.

I used to get exactly 22.9 mpg, about 70% highway, 30% Long Island traffic. Then I put in my K&N Drop In, and I'm struggling to get 19-20 mpg. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

How hard are you guys flogging the throttle?! I usually get around 19-22 around town with the A/C and on the highway break 30mpg @ 80.

I have an 2k SE. I average 21 combined city/hghwy. When I travel long distances on the highway I notice that I get almost 25mpg. The car is completely stock and I run 93 octane only and Mobil 1 synthetic oil.
