Jiffy Lube for my 2k2 oil change?

The dealer was telling me about the "special" oil filter that the Max's have. Had something to do with keeping more oil in the engine after the engine is shut off.. pressure valve or something like that on the filter.

1. Was this guy just shooting some BS to get me to use the dealership for oil changers?

2. If this is true, does Jiffy Lube have a replacement that will do this as part of their "standard" oil change, or do I need to request it?

3. Or do I need to go to Auto Zone and get a certain filter and give that to the Jiffy Lube guys. If so, what oil filter is recommended for the 2k2 Max GLE?

Going to the dealer is a MAJOR pain, his hours don't match mine, Jiffy Lube's do.

And no, I don't change my own oil. I did that when I was 15yrs old and KC & The Sunshine band were #1 on the Billboard charts. Being 40yrs old, I now gladly pay to have this done... KC and his band they own and work at the local Jiffy Lube.

Well, I wouldnt take it to jiffy lube anyway, but...

The Max needs a filter with an anti-drainback valve. However, this is not at all uncommon. It's not special. Jiffy lube, if dont just f*ck up in general, will be able to change your oil just fine.

Re: Jiffy Lube for my 2k2 oil change?

I don't know about any oil filter with a check valve in it. As far as I know, they all have a relief valve that lets oil bypass the filter element (dirty oil still being better than no oil or insufficient oil). There are 2 different oil filter part numbers for the 5th gen VQ30's, but the only difference I see is in length.

I'd guess that the same filter(s) is(are) good for all 2k2 Max's. Given the choice, a longer filter would be preferable.

Have to poke a little fun here. I'm still changing my own oil, my baby brother is 44, and Beatles music was #1 the first time around when I started changing oil.

You can always purchase the Nissan OEM filters (about $4 ea) and bring them to Jiffy Lube. Jiffy Lube will install it and deduct a couple of $ from their charge for using your filter.

I've used Jiffy Lube a couple times and they did okay. I didn't like them trying to sell me extra service. I changed my own oil with my 91 Max but I don't change it myself with my 01. I buy my own oil and have my Nissan dealer do it (they've also done my mods - no complaints, yet). They schedule me in and only takes about 1/2 hour. Their hours are good and I've had no complaints. About 15-20 bucks with my own oil. The service dept knows me and my car. Works for me.

I wouldn't use Jiffy Lube. It's a waste of money and they have been known to do a bad job.

Anti-drain back valve. I think most oil filters have them in some form or another.

Hmmm, which sticky?

How-to's? Nah.
Parts? Don't think so.
TSB? Doubtful.
Cleaning? Nope.
Paint? AYK?
FAQ? Isn't it a bit soon for FAQ's on 2k2's?

Anyway, an anti-drainback valve is a check valve by a different name (I'm employed in the power piping business so I ought to know what valve type would be used).

The sticky comment is part of the sig.

I'll try to dig up the article that had all the filters cut up for ya. It didn't have the Nissan one cut up though. The filter articles IS in one of the stickies authored by evil Bill
