Hey again everyone!

I have after 6 months, gotten my maxima back! I just wanted to say hi to this warm loving community again.

The timing chain tensioner and water pump were both shot on the old engine, and it threw the timing off causing a constant tick at all RPMs

I paid $3260 total for an engine swap with an engine with 85K miles.

I'm not sure the guy even changed the engine.. it looks identical, rust and discoloration in exact same places on the timing cover.. but it is clear they did reseal the cover (RTV is different color). Im gonna peek for the vin tomorrow.

Anyways, im just thrilled to have my baby back.

I was driving a saturn ls1 with 454,000K miles for the past few months. No ebrake, bucks under acceleration, ect.

peace

nah, it was a maxima engine swap..

im really doubting he even swapped the engine.. looks like he swapped fuel rails, vias, and opened timing cover. engine looks identical to old one..

but nothing I can do as I didn't take pictures and cannot prove he screwed me :/

The car drives like it use to..

even after supposedly a new engine and tensioner and water pump, I STILL get the timing chain chatter at cold start up

(I have seen the damage this sound does first hand, from my beliefs the chain slips on the water pump gear as the tensioner primes) The pump was visually worn and damaged)

It sucks after paying all this money, I still have the chatter at cold start.. Does anyone know what would cause this? I mean the timing was all redone?

no im not ok with this. How can i prove it? How can I sue him when im ***** poor and cant afford food.

I just talked to him and stated the engine is defective, not only is there an oil leak, the timing chain should not make noise on cold start. Looks like the VTC sprockets are bad.

He said it was normal to make sound for a second (cold start) and I told him its not. I will be dropping off the car monday for him to fix the oil leak, change coolant pipes (he used the rusty one!! rather than my shiny one!)

I will have a copy of the TSB and will have it audibly recorded. This will prove my engine is defective and he will have to fix it free of charge per say his 3 month warranty.

The guy is a total **** trying to lie his way out of it. He tried to make me get an extended warranty at my expense to fix it.. even though HE ****ED UP.

I hate people. I hate liars. I hate being taken for a chump cause im young. If i had the money this guy would be sued like no other.

Holy **** u waited 6 months to swap an orginal engine in ur car and paid 3200 dollars.
Are u just joking or u for real.First u shouldnt pay more than 800 for a dek engine or wat do u have a 3.5 still no more than a 1000,and labor shouldnt cost more than 1000 and to me it still to much, and it shouldnt take more than 4 days and thats being lazy.
6 month breakdown of engine swap
1 month per mount
1 month for wire harness
1 month tranny and misc parts

working on settling this.

I have some ground to stand on. The ticking timing chain noise is not normal, especially if the engine he put in had 85K miles. I am going to record the sound on my phone, then print the nissan TSB regarding the VTC's. With this i should have a case to force him to replace or repair the engine.

Either way, the engine he did or did not put in is defective and the TSB proves it.

may have a court case, hoping we can avoid it, but it WILL happen if he plays dirty, and i WILL win

I got an 02 Maxima SE 6 speed. When I bought it the engine way blown. I paid 700 bucks for 07 Quest engine with 116k. The top and bottom end were resealed. Spend 500 on labor and the car runs great. No timing chain noise, no nothing. I think paying 3200 bucks and having your car run about the same with the "new" engine is a rip off.

I think it sounds par for the course for plane crash. The easy thing to do would be for him to show you the old engine. Geez, how hard is that. Most shops keep the old engine around for a bit.

And for all that is sane, yes - the engines are going to look nearly indistinguishable. These engines also tend to rust in the same areas, so to pop the hood and say it looks the same should be right, NOT wrong!

And $3200? I'd have charged you more just for having to put up with you.

I called around 25 shops. This was the best deal. Welcome to CT.

And I am 100% certain its the same engine.

When I say the one he showed me was new and shiny.. I mean it was new and shiny. No rust, no discoloration, no dry rot, nothing. It was perfect.

The engine in the car looks like my old one. Oily, discolored, ect.

I got royally ****ed. The timing chain parts are only going to break again with the cold start tick.

I hope I dont need to go to court.. but I will

Why don't you go and talk to the guy and ask him to show you the old engine like it was suggested above. Most shops are not going to get rid of an old engine right of way. They got other things to do and worry about.

I filed a dispute with paypal. Im dropping the car off tonight.

He stole my ****ing new coil packs and gave me junk yard coils.
He stole my ****ing coolant pipes and gave me the rusty ones.

He left an engine with a severe defect in my car. Bad VTC's. Under TSB: NTB03-060

I am going to sue if he doesnt swap the engine.

I am going to look at the old engine when I can and take a video and pictures.

I have uploaded all those pics to my paypal dispute

You bought a junk yard engine and now you are crying about leaks and the appearance of the engine? Did you pay for new seals and all the parts you wanted to keep being swapped? Or did you just assume?
