Parking Brake Light stays on
Parking Brake Light stays on
As the title reads my parking brake light will not go off. I replaced my brakes probably 4 months ago and installed everything correctly. This didn't start happening until about a month ago so I don't think it has anything to do with the installation or parts. It started out by blinking and going on and off. Then one day it just would not go off at all. This make me believe it was a faulty switch and the lever just needs to be replaced (you cannot replace just the switch and it is molded to the actual lever). The parking brake functions just fine and there is absolutely no rubbing while it is released. From what I understand of the sensor function, it is a simple open/closed pole switch attached to parking brake lever (guess I should say I have a manual and I have a hand parking brake). I've taken apart the center console and tested the parking brake switch and it seems to slide (open) just fine. If you ever have your center console off you will know what I'm talking about and how this switch works. I can find a replacement lever with a switch on ebay for around $45 but I couldn't seem to figure out how to remove the wire from the switch. If anyone has experienced this problem and found a solution please let me know. I have 155,000 on my car so the only real reason for the fix is in case of resale. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank guys. Yes I did a search and unfortunately the answer wasn't until about 5 pages into threads. I filled my brake fluid reservoir and everything is good again. I'm going to keep an eye on it for the next couple of weeks to make sure I don't have a slow leak. I'm sure my brake in period is up and the caliper piston travel distance has increased causing a need for more fluid. I don't see any leaks in the system as of now but I'll keep my fingers crossed. This might be my last winter with my favorite car as my dad is looking for a new car and could possibly sell me his all black '09 with 90k. He has driven Maximas since '96 and while they are great cars, I feel like he wants to jump tax brackets. He really likes the 370Z Nismo so maybe he's having a late life crisis.
