Last day with my maxima :(
Last day with my maxima :(
Well today marks the passing of another of my vehicles, Its been a great vehicle for the year ive owned it and i really hope to replace it with another maxima or altima (have my eye on a 2010 altima SR sedan 6 speed ) a friend of mine made me an offer for my 02 maxima SE 6 speed that i felt was alright ($4,000) I purchased it wrecked in the rear with a salvage title last year, repaired it, replaced all the old bose stereo, installed subwoofers in the rear deck (search my posts you'll find photo's) installed q-logic kick forms in the front, and put a nice pioneer PRS-80 headunit in it, it all goes with the car. So if anyones in the burlington NC area and spots a pearl white maxima with a silver/sand color rear bumper its my old maxima, Ill miss the car but i never had a real connection with it like ive had with some of my other cars, however its been super reliable, and comfortable, just not sporty enough for me, im hoping the altima SR will fill that void if i win it (its also a salvage auction car)

sorry the SR is listed at nissan as dropping the manual in 2009 (so according to nissan the 2009 is the last year for the 6 speed SR) however this 2010 model YES 2010 is a 6 speed manual sedan, i know nissan says it isnt possible, however ive seen it, my father tested it (also a salvage vehicle) and it is indeed a 2010 model with 6 speed manual on a 3.5L engine, and yes it has 4 doors, its also loaded including leather, it had about 8 inches of water in the car, everything including the power seats work.

flood damaged vehicles vary widely, ive purchased 4 of them previous to bidding on this one, this one is by far the "least" flood damaged of them all, i got a 97 miata that had water sitting over it for several hours (water flooded a basement garage) never got into the motor, but the throw out bearing had to be replaced, the radio had to be replaced, but everything else was in good working order, drove the car for 6 months and then sold it, its still on the road today without any issues (been 3 years since it was repaired) i removed all interior, cleaned carpets, seats, and anything else that looked like it would have any mold or smell to it, and yes i always tell the new owner what kind of damage they have had. my brothers car had about 16 inches of water in the rear and the motor was about half submerged, his is a 98 chrysler cirrus, his alternator, and a couple pulleys had to be replaced, and the radio was non-functional, everything else was ok, he's been driving it for alittle over 2 years now without issues, and my mothers hyundai santa-fe had about 8 inches in the floor and only had to replace the power seat on the drivers side (only the motors) now this altima has a very slight smell, but everything works, no water had got into the engine , the interior is clean, it has a water line about 3 inches up the carpet, about 2 inches below the center console, however when my dad got in the car he said the water must have gotten alittle higher then receeded for a while because he saw another water line, the car started, all the stereo worked properly, car shifted smooth, and ran fine, its showing 50,000 miles on the odometer and needs absolutely nothing at this moment to be driven, its a silver sedan SR 6 speed with leather, im hoping to have absolutely no more than $7,000 in the entire car, $4,000 for my maxima was a reasonable price when i included about $1000 worth of stereo equipment, an extra set of brand new shocks/struts (still in boxes) and 4 extra tires with 80% tread.
and before anyone else knocks the salvage altima, my other options im considering are a 09 cobalt SS turbo sedan 5 speed(wrecked) and a 08 chevy HHR SS 5 speed(also a flood vehicle) Id prefer the altima, or a 04-06 maxima 6 speed.

As someone that's repaired flood damaged interiors for years the only flood cars I would avoid are ones that have been flooded with salt water.
I remember when someone brought their 2 yr old vette into the shop after he parked it on the beach for some pictures and forgot about the tide coming in. My advice to him was to sell the car as fast as he can. It was only 3 days after it happened and he already had electrical components going bad all over the car. This was with a water line just a few inches above the rocker panel.
At the same time I've worked on cars that were flooded halfway up the door panels and just like the OP had mentioned a new radio and a few other pieces and they were good to go.

Dam vette owners. They're all the same for the most part. When I owned my C6, I couldn't stand talking to other Vette guys.
