2k4 max (2003)
You know, I just bought a Altima 2.5S for my cousins out in Gaitherburg MD Nissan and the Sales Manager, who I am very close friends with, told me the 2003 is going to be a V8 also.
I told him he full of shiet, cause nissan I dont believe is every going to make a v8. They all into this v6 deal of pushing so much hp and still giving good gas mileage.
Plus if they making a v8, some or another, that engine prototype would have leaked out by now, it takes more than a year to design one and have it ready for the next model line. We are down to probably only 10more months before the 2003 model line release, no way enough time.

what if they worked on that for more then a year or 2, the info had leaked out a long time ago, i heard there were rumors a while back about the V8 2k3 maxima....but again...fwd or rwd?
oh joy here we go again....My bets are that the Max will come with a V7 and will have right wheel drive, meaning that only the left wheels will drive the car with an optional 6wheel drive model on the SE-R Type R Special Edition with an V7 engine in the front and back.
Q45
When I got my new 2001 AE/SE (for free) after threatening to sue under lemon law on my 2000 SE(autoTRAGIC, rotor probs, sunroof, TCM, bumper, etc...)...I spoke with the a few Executives(yes corporate execs) there in regard to the new Max coming out(as i had many conversations with them when trying to find a new car fully loaded for me to replace my P.O.S.). He said they wanted(or were intending) the Max to share the same platform as the Q45 with the Q45 retaining the edge in luxury and "technical refinement". Performance wise they wanted the cars to be identical. They want the Max to become more of a luxury car (hence they changed the transmission to be smoother - TCM ring a bell?) Obviously, They recently upgraded the Altima and Sentra to replace the current Maxima and previos Altima and would be upgrading the Max soon. Everyone knows Nissan isn't as profitable as it would like to be right now and the direction the Max was to go still isn't set in stone. It should be rather interesting what will happen...but the MAX WILL be getting a Q45 V8 , that the only thing this guy was 99% sure of. By no means can I gurantee any of this to happen but it seemed logical.
For what it is worth, the Infiniti web site has a section for "future" models. It list a new model with a V6 and rear wheel drive. Also it will have a tiptronic style transmission. We will have to wait and see, but I might be tempted to switch to Infiniti next year.

If the 2K3 Max is like the Avalon, I'm selling my 2K1 Max as soon as the news hits the street. I don't want my car to even be remotely associated with the Avalon( a car for Geezers ). I chose the Max because of its sporty sedan image.

"You should look at the Avalon if you are looking for a Maxima, it's bigger."
"Does it come in a manual?"
"Uh....no."
End of conversation.

The "2004" max{not 2003!!} will use the VQ35 producing 280 HP and will have AWD as an option{maybe not the 1st year} and FWD standard. There will be a 6spd transmision and the base price will be set at $29,9XX.

Here's the Scoop, According to NissanNews.com
I happened to be checking the Detroit North American International Auto Show info on nissannews.com last night, specifically, the info on the Quest concept vehicle. In the last paragraph of the "At-A-Glance" section for the new Quest is this quote:
Future Production Plan
-(the Quest)Will be the first vehicle produced out of all-new manufacturing facility located in Canton, Mississippi
-Production model to be powered by the award-winning VQ35 series engine
-Utilizes SS-L platform used on the 02 Altima and the next generation Maxima
So it looks like the next Gen Maxima will probably remain FWD or maybe AWD. V-8? Definite maybe.
Unless the 6th Gen Maxima is one heck of an fwd/awd automobile, my next vehicle will probably be an Infiniti G35. I want RWD!
I think we were/are hoping it would be 540i/M-5 competitor but....

Here's a "best case scenario" IMHO...
We know the new Maxima and the Altima will share platforms, right? What some people haven't caught on to is that RWD cars like the G35 and 350Z and even the next AWD GT-R are on this platform.
There have also been rumors of a hotter G35 somewhere down the line, with a version of the Q45's V8(probably detuned somewhat). My reasoning is that Nissan already has a FWD version of the G35, the Altima. Why make two, and offer them both as Nissans? If the next Maxima will have a V8, I figure that it could just be a rebadged G35 V8. That's what I'm hoping for.
I know what you're thinking: What happens to the I35? If Infiniti doesn't kill it off, they might make it the second FWD G35 I mentioned earlier. All speculation of course, but it makes sense, IMHO. BTW, the Infiniti SUV hybrid is tentatively called the FX45.

- Ther don't share the same platform, if I can find the article I will post it later. Altima/Maxima platform are bigger then the Sykline platform. It's also made in Japan not America.

- V8 G35, no way, the 35 in G35 comes from the engine displacement 3.5l, I don't think Nissan is going to make another V8. There is going to be a 2 door G35 though.

"Now that the much anticipated 2002 Altima is virtually ready to be sold at dealers, we wonder what Nissan has in store for us with the redesign of the new 2004 Maxima. Sources have been tight-lipped but we managed to pry some unconfirmed information from our contacts. Expect an overhaul of the Maxima platform - meaning a radical departure from the Maxima's front wheel drive layout. All wheel drive anyone? Of course expect the now ubiquitous 3.5 liter VQ V-6 engine pushing some class leading horsepower onto the road. Expect a very sporty design both inside and outside. Other than that we're working on getting some more data on Nissan's new sedan flag ship. Stay tuned!"

Speaking of the G35, does anyone know if there will be a true manual tranmission option? I had heard that it was a "Tip-tronic" auto...That would stink...

MaxPower,
I'm in the DC area (Tyson's) and recently test drove the 2002 SE at VOB. Niiiiiiice. Assuming I maintain my job, I'm real close to buying and starting the 3rd installment in my Maxima owner saga.
Has you sales manager friend given you any real skinny on what they are willing to sell the fully loaded SEs (sans Nav system) for? With the impact of the Altima they are supposedly "motivated to sell" the Maxima, but I'm not sure if I can get below invoice plus the current rebate.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

This controdicts another post that says the Maxima will have a V8 option, and offer AWD as optional unless the SS-L platform would also support AWD.

By looking at the Altimas changes, I can definately see the Maxima (Nissans Flagship) moving to a V-8 platform.
I don't know why it couldn't be FWD, the El Dorados in the 70's had 400+ hp, and were FWD....
We'll just have to wait and see....

Why do people keep thinking the G35/350Z/GTR (All RWD and all with near perfect weight distribution) share a platform with the Alti/Max
