it SHOULD have three wires (basedon other air/fuel gauges I've seen)
one is to the O2 sensor (blue)
one is for power (red - usually for the lighting)
one is for ground (black)

if there are more, let me know... but that's how they typically are.

Aight all this techy talk is confusing us poorer and uneducated people. What is this thing, what does it do, why you need it?

Kev you may need to cut open the back of the pillar to fit the Tomei amplifier, and the wire is fairly short from the Amp to meter, and needs to calibrated to stabilize the reading.

I think confused bypassed the amp, I could be wrong.

I'll find out today.
Yeah, the problem is with the splicing. I'm not too sure what to splice yet. Maybe I should look at the ESM first.

Yellow goes into the cabin? I thought yellow should splice into the parking light source to light up the gauge at night?

How does the amp get calibrated?

Thanks.

This device measures the air/fuel ratio of the car. You can use this to tell if your car is running rich or lean. Since the O2 sensor is wideband, you can use the gauge to tune the car (14 to 1 in NA's case).

I need it because I'm going to tune the S-AFC and get close to 12.5:1 for my air/fuel ratio.

Okay Kev...here goes...

I believe your car utilizes a 3-wire OEM 02 sensor [my 4th gen uses a 3-wire OEM 02 sensor (courtesy of Brett) so I'm assuming your 5th gen does, too] that needs to be swapped so that means you have to refer to the diagram on the upper half of p8 of your booklet.

See the picture of the Tomei 02 sensor on p8? The wires on the sensor going from left to right are as follows -

1) Tomei 02 sensor ground (gray) - you connect this to one of the separate black ground wires thats included with your kit. Then you connect the ground wire to the negative post of your battery.

2) Tomei 02 sensor signal (black) - you connect this to one end of the orange subharness that's included with your kit (you can see from the diagram). For other end of the subharness, one wire connects with the gray signal wire that runs from the main harness (see p6). For the last remaining wire of the subharness, you have to splice into your OEM O2 sensor signal wire.

3) heater power (white) - you splice this with your OEM O2 sensor power wire.

4) heater ground (white) - you splice this with your OEM O2 sensor ground wire.

Now go to p6 of the booklet.

1) The red wire of the main harness goes to a 12V source (not constant, of course).

2) The yellow wire of the main harness goes to illumination.

3) The gray wire of the main harness, we've already discussed in the above section regarding the subharness.

4) The two black ground wires of the main harness go to the negative post of your battery. (After installation, you should have a total of 3 ground wires running to the negative post of the your battery.)

I believe that's it. Enjoy the Tomei, I know I have. =)

Thanks Jeff. Your writeup is what I deduced from going back and forth reading the other O2 setups. I knew the 1, 2, or 4 wire O2 diagrams weren't correct, but I wasn't 80% sure what the lower portion of page 8 meant. I knew one went to power, one went to ground, but I wasn't sure what "3000 rpm blah blah blah blah 3 blah blah blah" I figure it was 0-1 V above 3000 rpm?

The only other part I wasn't sure about was the yellow wire. Thanks for confirming that it's the illumination wire (splice with parking light source).

Any need for recalibration?

You know how Alex told you to splice all the ground together to make it look nicer? Can't do that.

Thanks a lot.

No problem, Hogan. Thanks for the gauge.

Additional info from 4th gen... o2 sensor wiring harness. the harness to o2 sensor has generic wiring (black/white). check the fsm or peel back the tape before the harness to verify.

(t02 = tomei o2 sensor)

to2 white female end goes to nissan ecu = blue/yellow

to2 white male end goes to nissan ignition - red/black

t02 black goes to splitter goes to nissan nissan ecu white

grey wire from tomei harness through firewall into splitter.

What i did is cut the three o2 sensor wires and attached it to the oem harness.
Make sure to observe where the oem wires are tied down and replicate after. Dont just let it hang or you will fray the wires.

In cabin, like Calsonic says, use ignition on source (fuse box) for one and 12v illumination source (ie. ashtray light) for the other and 2 grounds.

If you have an exta port in your y pipe, forget the o2 sensor splice and just put it in there with the grey wire from amp.

Thanks Brett.

Which O2 do you recommend splicing into?

I don't have an extra O2 hole like you guys so I have to splice.

I don't have an extra O2 hole and didn't want to drill one... you can thus, the big nut in the kit.

I did the right bank sensor. Ideally, you should have two gauges, one in each pipe/bank I keep trying to get Hogan to give me his

Hmmmm..... OK. I was thinking right bank sensor 2 (the one on the long portion of the y pipe), but the one you mentioned might be cleaner (less wires to see).

I'd like to have another Tomei for my other bank. Hehehehe

I can't use right bank sensor 1 like you guys (on pre-cat).

Now that I think about it, I have the EGT hooked up to the front so I'm going to hook the Tomei to the rear. PERFECT!!!

if you have an egt in one bank why not put the a/f in the other rather than at the cat?

Yeah, that's what I meant. One in right bank, the other in left bank.

No problem, Hogan. Thanks for the gauge.
The lower half of p8 basically tells you how to find the signal & power wire of your OEM O2 sensor, but there's no need to, since Brett already posted which wires are which. And nope, there's no need for recalibration...

My O2 wire colors are different (2 white, 1 black) for sensor on the left bank.

I'll have to figure out which is 12V and which is signal with a multimeter. Shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks.

Actually, there is no letter "L" in the Japanese romanization of English words. However there is a letter "R" which is pronounced like an "L". That's why you always see L's replaced with R's in "Japanese-English" words.

I guess the same can sorta be applied to English speakers. Most can't pronounce Japanese words correctly & vice versa.

Sorry, this is getting to be OT.

As for the Tomei, the labeling may not be grammatically correct, but hey the darn thing works. =)
