Strange power occurrence

While sitting in the car with key in the on position ,the vanity mirror light turned off I feared the battery had died but it started right back up,I put the key back in the on position and about a minute later the clock on the dash went out ,does anyone know if this is a alt/bat issue?

When the vanity mirror light went out, was the car running and then it died? I'm guessing yes because you said the car started right back up.

Then the clock thing - was the car running then and it died at that time?

I don't think it is the alternator or battery at this point, but I need more details as to what else stopped working at that time. The ignition switch is a possibility maybe. Try wiggling the key and see what happens.

There are no timers for the clock or vanity mirrors. The vanity mirrors get their power from the same source as the map lights, the dome light and the step lamps, so if it happens again, see if any of these still work. These lights have power all the time, you don't need the key in the ignition.

The clock is different and not in the same electrical circuit. It has 2 power sources, one for the time and one for the display. The power for the display is also the power for the radio and power antenna. If this happens again, check if these other things work.

Question - did the clock still have the correct time when it came back on?

The glove box light is part of the dash lights, so it will only come on when the headlights are on.

Do you still have the regular light bulbs for the dome and door lights? It would be interesting to see what happens with the incandescent bulbs.
