Considering adding a turbo...
and I have 69K miles, what else should I do along with the turbo install? I was wondering if I should rebuild the engine and replace my belts, hoses and etc with high performance replacements. Also, should I consider upgrading my transmission, brakes and tires?
I agree with WTF? I have my '02 Max as my DD and a '93 MR2 Turbo for when I wanna have fun and it's a perfect combination. Adding a turbo to your Max is just going to make the reliability that much worse. Unless you've got money to burn, you're better off picking up a cheap little sports car and having fun with it and leave your low miles Maxima alone.
Lots to read on here about guys that have turbo'd their cars. Moderate boost and hp gains will allow you to leave stock internals. High boost is going to require beefing everything up. You will quickly find that it is incredible expensive to do what you want to do if you want to do it correctly - meaning if you want a professional job that will maintain reliability and drive-ability.
I think people (myself included) that need to ask these kinds of questions are not ready to do this job. This job is for someone that has a supreme understanding of how it all works and how to do any other job on a car....o and a lot of $$!!
Adding a turbo to a [big] V6-powered, FWD vehicle is a recipe for [more] torque steer and a general lack of ability to put power to the ground. Get a nice RWD sports car/sedan, and add power as needed. Keep the Maxima as a reasonable DD. And this is coming from someone who has modified his Maxima quite a bit. And then bought a nice RWD sport-luxury sedan (E39).
Since you live in the USA - why not look into getting a engine swap intead of forced induction?
The newer VQ from gen 7 put out 290 hp stock and people on .org have successfully swapped them into Gen 5.5s.
Torque steer might be a issue

Upgrade your clutch.
Make your own turbo kit and upgrade your fuel system, then get some tuning equipment and tune it.
I cant second this enough, in factory spec, this car takes corners like a garbage truck. Coilovers and swaybars would be the most notable improvement.
If you have to ask questions like this... Don't turbo any car. My best advice to you would be to read, and read. Then when think you've read enough, read some more. Research and knowledge is the best medicine.
I suspect for the price you were to pay to add a turbocharger to your maxima, you could purchase yourself a decent used Eagle Talon/Mitsubishi Eclipse. I had a talon years ago, and it was turbocharged and awd as well. This provides an awesome platform for a project car.
This guy has only posted twice on the .org
