Check Engine Light Help

Hey Fellow Maxima Fanatics

I need some advice regarding some codes pulled from my 2001 SE. i have p0430 and p0217. I checked online and in this forum and found some probable causes and directions to take but i think i need some help.

p0430 is an old code for me back when i got my emissions in january, i was told to change my PreCat Bank 2, which seemed to fix the problem til now. Vacuum leak or O2 sensors next?? Just replaced my Vehicle Speed Sensor, not sure if this is related.

p0217 is new for me, Engine Coolant Overheating....not sure where to start with this one. Radiator and Thermostat are under a year old, not sure if they need replacing. My car drives perfect unless im in stop and go traffic or idling, then Temperature Gauge skyrockets to the top.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I would like to get started on these fixes this weekend

Thank you

0430 Ahhh, no. That's not EVAP. That's the ever elusive precat/O2/lean code.

As for the overheating code ... Heater blowing hot? Temp gauge staying where it should?

Everything is perfect until i start idling...in traffic or stopped with the engine on. With or without A/C or heat. When Im driving everything is smooth. Here in Atlanta traffic is a real big issue lol.

As for the 0430, no one seems to know the exact cause smh

Try and burp the system for the more easier diagnostics.

For the P0217, you may also want to check the ECTS for the ohms reading as specified on page EC-323 in the FSM.

I feel compelled to comment when another member starts taking about either the PO420, or the PO430 code. I replaced both the Y Pipe and the Downpipe, along with the O2 sensors for each.

If you only replaced the cats, I would definitely replace the O2's next, should take care of the problem.

Are both fans working? Turn on the AC and both fans should turn on.
