Trunk Light - All interior lights work except
Hey guys
I had recently switched all my interior lights to leds, and replaced the gauge cluster light fuse (tail light fuse in engine bay) and the room light fuse in the cabin. Now every interior light works except the Trunk Light. The fuses seem to be fine, no damage to them and I know for the 2000 Maxima the fuse for the trunk is the Room Light Fuse. The bulb is good I tested it and tried both sides in inserting it in the socket. Anyone else have this problem? I am thinking about replacing ALL the fuses in the cabin and the engine bay (the standard fuses only) Pls help me.
Sincerely
Jericho

do you know if it's EVER worked?
I'm thinking that the harness for it is loose/corroded or something of that nature. Especially since this is the only one, and you have a good bulb. have you tried it with a regular incandescent bulb?

It has worked with the incandescent bulb before I bought the LED. I tested the LED aswell and it too is also good. It should be noted that my friend closed the trunk door hard yesterday and when i inspected the trunk area there was no light. Prior to this incident after changing the fuse for the interior lights the trunk light was working. I will test with an incadescent bulb.
I have taken the plug housing out of the trunk ceiling and inspected the harness. Everything is pretty tight, there doesnt seem to be corrosion on the metal connections. No loose wiring etc.

This is going to sound absolutely asinine.. but try it.
Using the fob, lock all the doors, then unlock them, then open the trunk.
I have noticed that my trunk light will not come on unless the doors have been unlocked first.
That is to say that if I'm coming out of the grocery store and hit the "trunk" button, I'm greeted by a dark trunk. But if I hit "unlock" my trunk lights up.
Strange but true.

Sorry late reply but I figure somebody might be experiencing the same thing.
Few months before I had this problem I began to spray some petroleum based lubricant to the hinges and metal contact points in the trunk area as a precaution and planned maintenance if you will. The end result was that the plastic switch piece that activated the light unit in the trunk became encased in grease. It wasn't until my friend shut the trunk lid firmly that the grease seized the retention mechanism of the plastic switch.
The fix?
Simply take apart the trunk switch unit. It is easy to detect as it is the black piece inside the crevice where the lid hook meets the black hole in the middle of the black plastic cover. Take a screw driver and take it apart. Clean it and reassemble. It should fix any related issues regarding a temperamental trunk light.
