New Engine???

Have an 03 6mt that burns massive amount of oil. Just got an oil change last week, checked my dipstick today and there is barely any oil on it!! Only did about a weeks worth of driving back and forth to work id say about 300 miles. what would be the best option: get another 02/03 motor, an 04-06 or 07/08...im trying to have this done before winter hits

Would that be cheaper than just swapping a new engine?

Engine oil use and wear

Sometime in 2000 or thereabouts, Nissan used increased valve timing overlap instead of an EGR valve in the Maxima. When the overlap is sufficient, intake manifold vacuum sucks some exhaust gas back into the cylinder to quench the high temperature spike during combustion, same as what a conventional EGR valve does.

The serious downside involves the effect of deteriorating catalytic converters. Small pieces from the ceramic matrix are sucked back into the engine through the exhaust valve, wearing piston rings and cylinder walls, leading to increased oil consumption. At least for California specification cars, the front catalyst matrix is right up against the exhaust manifold flange, providing a somewhat shorter path from the catalyst back into the engine.

Catalyst deterioration can occur without setting P0430 or PO420 codes. When changing engines, examine the front catalyst matrix carefully. If there is any sign of deterioration, or if you had a P0430 code, change both converters. The situation is a consequence of the way Nissan chose to avoid use and cost of an EGR valve.

Hope this helps a bit.
