2003 maxima steering rack bushings replacement?

I've searched but couldn't find an answer has anyone replaced or attempted to replace these. I believe there are 3 according to the illustration from Courtesy nissan.

I wanna know too. I wonder if the steering rack has to come out or they can be swapped out easily like the sway bar bushings.

I purchased them thinking they were just bushings but they're really intense metal inserts with a bit of rubber inside... They definitely need to be pressed out and even then i feel like it'd be difficult. My OEM ones were still solid so I'm just gonna leave them in.

It's mostly likely related to your inner tie rods or possibly your control arm bushings. I checked for visible signs of play and wear and they looked like new. There just isn't much rubber there to flex/wear out like a suspension bushing does.

I definitely have a bushing gone on the drivers side, had the boot off to replace inner tie-rods and discovered a fair bit of play from the actual arm inside the rack.

I can only assume that means a shot bushing?

The niccoclub fsm is dead now apparently, so has any one done this? I love to know what I'm doing into.

It's not, the link in my signature goes to http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/use...-database.html which is working fine.

Thanks for the link.

Has anyone done this, or had the same problem? The play isn't the whole rack moving around, it's the long gear/shaft that the inner tie rods connect to, that is moving around in the housing.

It doesn't confirm weather or not I can replace the bushings (or seals as fsm calls them) to remedy the play I have.

I'm really hoping I don't have to replace the rack...

Anyone?

Again, it's not the whole rack that's moving around, but the shaft or (worm gear?) that comes out of the rack and is attached to the inner tie rods.

It is moving around to where it will click when the car is off and you turn the steering wheel, as well as sometimes when turning into a driveway. I'm hoping it's one of the seals/bushings shown in the diagram in the fsm, as opposed to having to replace the whole rack.

Whole steering racks are an arm and a leg here in the great white north, and it's to much work to gamble with a junkyard rack.

Hey eveyone. Ive searched all over these forums as well and can really only find this post pertaining to a 2003 maxima steering rack bushings. Ive read a bunch for a 4th gen and can really find any for 5.5gen or 2003 year. Ive having the same exact issue as Br124.
it's not the whole rack that's moving around, but the shaft or (worm gear?) that comes out of the rack and is attached to the inner tie rods.

Sorry to bring up an old post but I really need some advice here. Im moving soon and would like to bring this car. So do you guys think I should get a new rack or try and mess with these bushings. I actually already bought them and not sure how Im going to even try and do the drivers side. I need to find a good mechanic. But anyway Ive dont the whole front end basically to try and fix this. New struts tie rods inner and outter and control arms. I bought new tires too and still have the deadly pull laterally when driving.

I still cant find any post really of anyone doing the drivers side bushing either. I just dont know what to do Im going crazy over here. I really dont know what it could be. My steering wheel is loose with about an inch of play. When I got all the front end work done the wheel was tight and after I got an alignment it wasnt. I do feel like the alignment shop messed something up. They are Firestone but I cant be sure btu I asked them to look at it. They just said internal rack movement and I would just need a new rack. Can drives straight just has the exact symptom of worn rack bushings. Any help at all would be appreciated.
