Heated seats/emergency brake problems

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE with heated leather seats. The light for the heated leather seats comes on, but no heat either side. Also, my emergency brake need adjusting so I can rip it sideways. This is the first Nissan I've owned. I bought it as an A to B car, its not perfect, but I find that I'm regretting not getting one sooner. Last question, I put an K&N filter in it, any other really cheap mods for suggestions?

I know these questions have been asked a hundred times, but I'm new. Any help would be appreciated.

Since the light in the seat switch comes on, that means that the fuse is good and you have 12 volts coming into the switch. There is a black ground wire that goes to each of the switches and this ground is used by the heating elements in the seat cushion. Check the black wire for continuity to the chassis. If the ground connection is good, you may have a burned out heating pad in each of the seat bottom cushions.

For the parking brake, follow the adjustment procedure in the FSM (Factory Service Manual), section BR (Brakes), pages 37 & 38.

Don't have the manual? Get it here:
http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/

The file named fwd.pdf is the "cover page" file, the index of chapters.
The file named idx.pdf is the alphabetical index file.

There are 2 versions of the manual for the 2000 year model based on VIN #.
Because of different assembly plants there are different VIN # groupings.
Look at the last 8 digits of the VIN.

for VINs up to and including YT0 12236, YT2 11680, YT5 27429, or YT7 40491, download the manual labeled 2000.

If the VIN # is higher than the above numbers, download the manual labeled 2000.5

OH - and welcome to the org.
