Changed out my alternator and I got a new battery but my power windows still don't work my fogs don't come on and if I disconnect the jumper cables it shuts off... Why my rpm goes from like 800+ to 600then dies

for the fogs and windows check your fuses first. check the voltage on the battery at idle with a DVOM, its possible you got a bad alternator especially if its a reman

I went last night auto zone charged battery for me I got car running drove around my town for a little then I noticed my power stuff starts to work my fogs still a no and my power locks and seats work. But this morning I go to drive it to work I start it battery says 10.7 I go inside get ready come back it's at 9.7 I put it into gear it goes to 9.4 I dare not turn my lights on or anything so I left it parked. Alternator is brand new from auto zone

I changed the alternator it's brand new and the battery is like 3 months old. It got charged last night at auto zone so idk why this happens. It was idle this am to get warm and the voltage on battery went from 10.7-9.6 in like 10 min. Didn't bother putting HID on just parked it. I don't get it.

Well using an Autozone alternator was the first mistake. I can't even remember how many times a customer comes in for a bad alternator or starter and balks at the cost of our parts. Customer wants to use their own (cheap Autozone) parts. We put in an alternator and it makes a few miles down the road. Customer has to pay us to swap it. They warranty it at Autozone, replacement makes it a day then fails. 3rd one lasts a day and fails...... Autozone = junk.

If you had an alternator fail there is a good chance it took the battery with it.

What happen was the dude that sold me this max has his radio hooked up to a continual switch or something so the battery died and I left it that way for like a week maybe little less then I get new battery the one I have now and the alternator just goes on me I take it out it's all black n burnt looking nasty stuff I get autozone part install and it was all good and then I'm back at square one.

Take the battery out of the car,go back to autozone and have it recharged make sure they test it there and see what the voltage is take it home and let it sit out the car overnight then check the voltage on it again if its under 12v it is bad .

Also, be sure ALL connections from alternator are clean and free of oil/dirt. get tif of that stereo switch and have it installed correctly. check fuses & look for a rats nest under your lower intake manifold, seriously, these gremlins destroy everything.

idk good question something I never looked into I just went to auto zone bought a new alternator for $194 or so then installed I might've done the splice wrong. But if I spliced wrong would the car even start? It just keeps losing the charge.

you shouldn't need to splice anything. it should bolt right in and clip together just like the original... unless your harness was crushed. in that case check the color-to-color wiring to be sure they're connected right.

photos always help

ok so I wound up soldering it together and I clamped my jumper cables and the car started pretty good but once I took them off the car died. Maybe leave it on longer ????

I re did my splice job and solder the wires for alternator. Hooked up my jumper cables and the car started. I think as I was told before auto zone sold me a p.O.s alternator

Why did you have to splice or solder anything? Either your alternator never worked or you damaged the wiring.

yes that's right. When changing alternators the wires came outta the clip attached to alternator. So I went to junk yard and got a harness and took that clip off and solder together

turns out... The guy who did the swap had the ground wires that weren't for a car they were for like subs or something it's really odd... But I fixed the tail lights and tomorrow I'm putting on a ground wire that works and changing out the terminals so I hope this is the end of all those issues

yes... there's two ways to do it:

1. pull the harness that is under the top of the radiator core support and R&R the entire wire.

2. disconnect the wire from the alternator and battery, zip-tie out of your way and install the new wire by still zip-tying it under the core support next to the current loom

any other ideas?

take the car to a car audio company, have them make you a new heavy duty fused wire & call it a day?

see I didn't even know I could do something like that. Because the gentlemen who had inspected my whip said "yo you got speaker wires for ground wires and as a hot from the battery your **** can catch fire" so I didn't know if I could just buy some wires from auto zone or something but I'll deff try that suggestion.

oh snap! I'd contact the shop that installed your system, let them know maybe. if you don't have/want that as an option, def take it to a new shop that can choose the safe and proper ground and hot wires for your battery, then have the amp checked as well... they'll know what gauge is a safe gauge and what proper wire insulation would work for your car. Lastly, if u want a great ground, there should be a thread on here for a ground kit... I bought one years ago and it's still in great shape!!

But I'll take the car to the audio place down the street even though I have no system in the car cause dude took it out. But whatever will get my shxt going
