K&N Panel Filter or Cone Filter?

Hi guys,
Haven't been around for a while. I just got my indiglo door sills the other day, will be posting pics soon.

But...

Which is better? The cone K&N (69.99 with fittings) or the flat line (the one that just goes in the box). I have no idea how much the latter sells for or where it sells for that matter. Give me some insight and id appreciate it.

Thanks.

And you guys with a filter, can you really feel the difference?

Hey Doc. I recently went with a K&N Cone Filter. It is incorporated on the Stillen Hi Flow intake hardware. There seems to be a moderate improvement in engine performance, possibly a few HP...but the wailing sound when the intake suck may give you the impression of faster and more solid acceleration....the intake howl that you hear may have a psychological component which make you feel this mod has made a significant difference. Personally I like the howl and gurgle at wide open throttle.

Man I was thinking the other day, this dude was the hottest selling 2k2 hids parts man, and then he just dropped off the planet. Great to see you back.

The panel filter dont really help much at all. I dont think you will notice a darn thing, I have it thats why. Plus you have to consider it is still a stock airbox and airflow system.

Now the cone is good, but the drawback is the slight loss in low-end torque lost due to the fact there is no "long" air flow tube and velocity.

I saw go with the Cone, since it sounds better, and you will actually hear and feel the difference, the panel filter wont do any of those except save you money IF you drive the car for 60k+ on that same filter, then and then it will pay for itself.

I bought the flat one. Easy installation (less the 2 minutes) and cleaner look under the hood. Did not notice any real improvement, except for a slightly better milleage (on hwy) and (maybe) a faster throtle, and a deeper sound.

When I got my 2000 max, I put in a K&N drop-in filter in it, and last week I instaled a stillen high flow intake with the K&N cone filter. The drop-in doesn't do much unless your old filter is really dirty. The high flow with the cone filter gives you a noticable difference (about 6 hp). O-60 is slightly improve, but 60-cut out is amazing. I say go with the stillen high flow intake.

Do the cone filter get dirt faster than the drop-in? I'm concerned about road conditions (snow, salt, sand, etc...)... What's your experience?

That is no concern whatsoever. I mean both filter out road debris and crap exactly the same. Should not be concerned with anything there.
