Clear or Black taillights on 2k2?

I've been thinking about swapping out the clear taillights with the 2k1 SE lights (smoked) or painting it with the same body color as my Max.

For some reason the clears don't look so "hot" with the Maj. Blue. On Sunlit sand and some other light colored paint it looks sweet and practically blends in. But on darker paint it stands out too much and gives prominence to the entire rear's... how do i say this, horizontal/rectangular look.

If you had a choice would you go for a) Clears, b) Smoked or c) Painted w/ body color.

Thanks

I agree that the clears look good on some lighter colors, but not on the darker colors. I would either go with the 2k1 se lights or get yours painted to match your car. I think that would look really nice. Someone else had their's painted to match their car and it looked GOOD. IMO

You got that right. I think 2K2 tails look like crap with darker colours but look fine to great as the colour gets lighter. The 2K1 SE tails are the way to go with a dark 2K2. While paint would allow a better match for any colour other than black I prefer to stay away from paint due to the potental for chipping. This also means I think 2K1s that are light in colour don't look very good with the dark SE tails.

D, I am clearing the orange out very soon and then I am going to paint the inside of the lights body colored{Sterling mist}. Note, when I say I am going to paint the inside's I am not going to paint the clear lens, just the stuff inside{chrome ring will stay chromed}. I busted one of my tail lights last night trying to get the damn thing open to clear it so now I decided to buy a heat gun and a can of body colored spray paint. Stay tuned

Ok I have a question. I'm not a big fan of my new tails or altezzas in general but I have seen some that I do like. Instead of a lighter silver inside it has been darkened but still keeps its "chrome" look. I think that would look SUPER badass on my black Maxi. If anyone knows of anyway to do this to tailights could you please help me out.

I still prefer the 2001 smoked lights. I find the clear nice on the white and Grey Lustre. In fact, the GL looks awesome.

That's going to look f*cking hot... soundmike - this is my recommendation. With the Majestic Blue it would look great, even more of a difference than on Sterling Mist.

I'm in the minority I guess. I think the clear looks best on the Maj. Blue. Grey Luster, Merlot, and Black also. I don't think they lok bad on any color - anythings better than that big red reflector on the 2000 -2001 GXE, GLE 's.

I do think that area would look best painted the color of the car though.

I have the '01 SE lights, maybe we could trade?
E-mail me if your interested. Overnight shipping would be cheaper than buying or painting existing tails.

i agree with you. i like the way the 2k2 tails look better on the darker colors than the lighter colors. its odd how thats the exact opposite of most other peoples' opinions. i say just keep your 2k2 tails as they are.

Your not alone i think the 2002 tails look good on all the Max but i do like them more so on white and sterling mist. I prefer the 2002 tails over body clor painted and the GXE,GLE and SE 2000-01 tails.

Thanks for all the responses guys. 'preciate it

I had another chance to part in between the other 2 Max's in our lot. One was a GLE with the red taillights, another was an SE with the smoked lights.

Just looking at the lights itself i do like the clears a lot but as many of you have agreed it does look like it's standing out too much on a darker colored car.

But however, yesterday i saw a black 2k2 and for some reason the clears look awesome on that one!

I'll play around with Photoshop to see what's the setup i like best.

TheMax, i'll keep your offer in mind. Gotta think about it now

:raises hand: That would be me. I'd say paint them body color soundmike. It looks real sharp when the tail lights are painted body color. It would look real sweet in Majestic Blue too. Paint them!!!

I think the 2002 tails look nice on the dark colors. I love them on the Majestic Blue. The only thing that took a little while to grow on me was the amber signals. Keep them.
