2002 Nissan Maxima GLE with 240,000 miles for sale....

It is nicely maintained. Interior and exterior are an 8/10. Good tires, brakes, new battery and spark plugs. I really want to get 60,000 miles out of it. Is $2,300 a good deal? Is there too much risk of tranny failure with 240,000 miles?

As solid as these cars are, a lot can/will go wrong at 240K miles. Do you know the car's service history? Even if the car was well-maintained, squeezing another 60K miles out of a tired powertain and drivetrain will require money. Unless they've been changed, the struts will be done, suspension will be beat, anything rubber (seals & gaskets) will be brittle, electrical gremlins will pop up (diagnosis is expensive and time consuming) and etc. I personally would look for something with less miles.

I have a 97 maxima se with 300,726 miles on it. Still have the original engine and transmission and nothing is wrong, still running strong and like new. The only thing i have changed is the front cv axel once about almost 9 years ago thats it other than that evrything else is original like rack and pinion, struts, shocks everything suspension wise is oem and no problem. So i think since thats a 2002 with probably with more improved suspension and parts u should be okay because these cars last and dont die. You will most likely get more than 60,000 miles as long as you use quality motor oil and gas like 91 or higher.

3.5 should make it to 300k miles easy assuming its been properly maintained. Might use a bit of oil but they generally don't come apart. Automatic transmissions though, once you get around 250k miles you're probably living on borrowed time. If you test drive the car, see how the part throttle 2-3 upshift is. If there is a flare (rpm jump), that's the shift that will do it. If there is no flare and fluid is red/pink with no burnt odor, you are probably okay for a while.

He had it listed for $2,800, I asked if he would take $2,300. Is this too high to pay for a car with this many miles? I'm sure for another $2,000 I can get the same car with 100,000 less miles but money is limited.

If u want a maxima get a 4th gen no offense but so far the 4th gen has and probably is the most reliable maxima ever built. Plus it still looks good for its age and I think it looks way better than a 5th gen. If u do go that route buy a 97-99 which look really good and has better exterior and interior.

Nope previous owner abused the car and I've been babying it fixing everything. The modding seemed to have just sped up revealing all the issues

Just base your offer off KBB. I always use that when purchasing a car. If it was me, I'd offer $2,000. Try to stick firm, and see if he takes it.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all your input. I forgot to mention this has a salvage title. I'm starting to think I should offer $1,800 or walk. Thanks so much guys!!

240k and salvage, dude either $1000 or walk not worth it.

My car has 242k and when i sell it, it'll have about 280k i dont plan on getting $1000 for it, just gonna drive it to the ground.

Walk.
240,000 miles and a salvage? Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

Why is the title a salvage? It doesn't necessarily mean it was rolled or anything harsh. At that age and mileage, it might have simply needed repair that exceeded value. Still...I wouldn't chance it.

Thank you very much to all. You have saved me a lot of money and I appreciate it. When buying a car it's a risk/reward proposition and this is clearly much more risk than reward.
