taking apart center console - help!

alright, the buzzes and rattles from the center console around the radio/hvac on my 2k GLE are killing me. I know there is a TSB issued on fixing the various rattles, etc on the car, but first things first...how do i start to take the faceplates, etc off the radio and HVAC - i cant seem to find any screws, etc. Thanks again fellas.

At your own risk, yank the thing off by getting a grip with your fingers thru the vents and pulling -- it will give. Just be carefull not to break the panel.

DO NOT pull from the vents! You WILL break them. Get a flat head screw driver and pry the pieces up individually. Starting at the bottom with the shift piece. The top vents are very tricky, but w/ some force (be carefull-it is only plastic and that means it WILL snap)you can do it. I have about 3 times.

It's best to pry the bottom of the vent assembly up a little from the top of the readio before you try to pull the vents out. Once you've got it to pop up a little on the bottom of the vents, use your Kung Fu Grip on the bottom of the assembly and pull straight out. I just did it on my 2K2, and it was easier than my '97.

take out the piece by the shifter first. everything sounds and feels like its gonna break, and everything comes out with a big "snap" that sounds like it is breaking, but have faith, it will not. its just what it does.
