6 speed tranny disassembly question
Hi guys. Need some advice.
I got a 6sp tranny and was trying to open it up because it doesn't shift into 6th gear.
I drained the fluid, taken out check *****, took out shifter and all basic stuff. When it came up to cracking it open - I was able to split 2 parts of the casing. Problem is - they won't come apart further than 1/2-5/8 of an inch. I tried prying up the top part from both sides and still no success.
I know bearings on input and main shafts might hold it together, but how can I take it apart completely? I got most of the tools needed (or so I think).
Thanks in advance

Did you pry out the sealing plug and remove the lock ring? It' a recessed plug on the driver side end of the transmission .You pry it out (you'll need to get a new one) and under it you'll find an inner circlip which you will need to compress and remove. Suggest you download the MT portion of the FSM for reference.

I did download the FSM and went through it quite few times before starting this thing.
Indeed, I have not removed the plug not the ring, missed those two...
Thanks again

Glad to help bud. Hope my comment re FSM didn't come across harshly, just many seem to give the disassembly a try without the fsm as reference. The exploded diagrams saved my bacon the first time I took the 6 speed apart. One other suggestion..once you have removed the shifting forks do not mess with the speed selector ring (what the shifting fork meshes with) and slide it back and forth...the range is restricted by the fork and in it's absence you will be able to slide it far enough out that tiny interlocks under it will fall out and the orientation and reinsertion of them was a pita.
