Turbo / Superchager
Ok guys i need some help,
My cousin and I was doing some herbal essence, and we was talkin about making my car into a sleeper...we was saying if i got like a light turbo (ie. 50-75 bhp) i might be able to bounce on alot of cars......my main goal is having a Maxima that can run with GS400's and TL-S or even E-Class Benzs. This is my currect setup. If anyone has any ideas please let me know or AIM me. *NO NOS*
2000 Automagic SE (VQ30 DE)
STILLEN FSTB
STILLEN RSTB
STILLEN RSB
STILLEN Aero Kit w/Touring Spoiler
STILLEN Oil Cap (5hp
)
Eiback Pro-Kit 1.5 inches all around
Tokico Gas Shocks/Struts (blue ones)
Future:
Greddy EVO Cat Back
Some kind of Turbo
Some kind of Braking System.

go nitrous or new Max instead
boost is the most driveable always on demand way to get that 50-75 extra hp. but if 50 to 75 extra hp is all you want it's much less of a fabrication/installation/tuning headache if you simply trade up to a 2002 Maxima 6-speed and install a few bolt ons. It might even be financially advantageous even if you take a hit when you resell your car. Given that the new fast 2002 Max exists, I really see no reason then to go to such exotic means for just 50 to 75 hp. Now if you don't want to get rid of your car, then just slap on a 50 to 75 hp shot of nitrous. For about $1000 you can have a classy install that will give you very safe 75 hp bonus if tuned right which you can use to take on those pesky GS400s/430s and other fast sedans. Since you probably won't race ones like these every week, you'll only be inconvenienced with a bottle refill every couple weeks or so.
also another big problem, i noticed you mentioned automatic tranny in your signature. unless you have a ford f350 powerstroke diesel-automatic trans combo, chances are your automatic (or practically any passenger car)is not designed for a combo of spirited driving and more motor output. on automatic f-body lt1s for example, i know guys with just 30 hp extra bolt-ons and within months the tires that once barked during hard shifts don't bark anymore and soon the car with those mods goes as slow as a healthy stocker. same deal with mkiv supras. ihave friends who had automatic (stock oem unit) mkivs with some added boost. and literally week-by-week i noticed the shifts getting sloppier and sloppier.
so if you go boosted plan on spending another $4000 in a custom automatic buildup that still may not be durable. this on top of $8000 for custom fabricated/installed/tuned twin turbo/intercooled system or $6000 for a supercharger kit/install/tuning. and even the nitrous system is a problem unless you can rig up a neat nitrous shutoff/blowoff mechanism during shifts by taking info by splicing into the pcm to transmission signal and doing something with that info.
