2002 Se

I just bought a brand spanking new 2002 Maxima SE. What can I do to tweak it up, I don't see about of threads about the 2002 Maximas, I guess because their too new. But I'm definitely interested in tweakiing it up (performance wise) within the next two years.

Another question, whats the SE have that the GLE doens't and is it true that they discontinued the GXE, thats what the dealer said

Thanks alot, any info would be much appreciated, I love this site and been reading the threads all morning and found loads of great info

first of all, welcome to the org

as for performance, i know that there is an intake made for the 2k2, it gives pretty good performance boost. you should also be able to get lower springs and such. since the car is new, and slightly different than the 2k and 2k1, you will have to wait for some performance stuff.
the gxe, from what i know, isn't discontinued, its just limited, they are not making many of those, i think it was 2-3% of all maximas are gxe's, very small number.
anyways, hope that helps, and welcome again.

btw, you got an auto or a 6-speed?

Automatic

first of all thanx for the welcome, I have an automatic, (is there a special name for the 2002 automatic, you don't have to push a button to switch the gears, almost like an automatic hybrid or something)
I was thinking about getting a manual but I live in the city and its torture, plus the fact I never drove a stick. Does the 2002 Se come with a six speed stick??

Whats an intake??? and how much would that cost and could I install it???

I'm not only new to Maximas but new to any car modifications so I don't know the lingo yet, but I rarring to learn

Thanx

Re: Automatic

Welcome aboard!

It's just a plain automatic without the button. However the transmission has been (according to Nissan) beefed up a bit to take the abuse of the stronger powertrain.

2k2 SE's come with 6spd, earlier units didn't come with LSD. Most units coming out around February comes with HLSD's.

An intake basically replaces your stock airbox to achieve better engine breathing. FrankenCar's Intake (Frankencar.com) has been shown to gain quite a lot of HP and torque in the 2k2's. The price is pretty reasonable as well.

There's actually a lot of mods you can perform on your 2k2 as it's somewhat similar to the 2k/2k1. To name a few:

1) FSTB (front strut tower bar) - Makes the front end stiffer = better handling
2) RSB (rear sway bar) - Ditto, makes the rear end stiffer
3) Lowering springs and shocks (H&R, Maxspeed, Eibach for springs. KYB, Tokico's for shocks)
3) VB Mod (Valve Body modification)- Don (In Texas, mobiletek.net) makes the shifting more crips and precise. Also lengthens the transmissions lifespan. Doesn't give you additional HP but it does help gain back what you lose.
4) Aside from the intake i mentioned above, there's the CAI (Cold Air Intake). Basically it pulls the colder air from outside your engine compartment into the throttle body.
5) Y-Pipe, it's not tested to work on the 2k2 yet but it should come out shortly.
6) NOS (Nitrous)

There's a lot more you can do. Use the search and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Darn, i'm so proud of myself. Just a couple month's back i didn't even know what a VB was! I thought it was some sort of disease or something like that.

See? You'll learn from all these Org peeps in no time.

First off, welcome to the board, Horsepower. You're going to really enjoy the Max. This board just makes the experience a little more complete.

Secondly, I will have to argue with soundmike about early 2k2 6spds. I picked mine up Nov. 7 and can guarantee you that even though it doesn't have the Helical Limited Slip Differential, it definitely has the Viscous Limited Slip Differential. Just wanted to clear that up.

Enjoy your new ride Horsepower.

Akrus, nice color you got there. Looks familiar

You are right, i failed to mention that it's the US units that doesn't seem to come with LSD of any kind up to this point. CA units come with VLSD's.

Sorry for the confusion.
