02 Maxima - Can I replace PCV hose without removing Intake Manifold?

Hello,

Thanks to this forum I am in the middle of replacing my 02 valve covers with 04 valve covers to fix my leaks and replacing the spark plugs and coil ignitors while I have the intake manifold off.

I noticed the pcv hose that connects to the valve covers is cracked on the edge. I can't find the part at any local part stores and the dealership won't be open until Monday.

My question is can I continue putting everything together and just replace the pcv hose Monday? I can't remember if the intake manifold blocks it or not.

Also is there any way I can repair the hose or just go get a new one?

Thanks,
Brian

That PCV hose is not particularly special - it does have a gentle curve in it though.

I think that any generic automotive grade replacement hose would work just fine. The curve is not so bad that the absolute correct hose is necessary.

I'm sure I could install it with the intake manifold on.
Tight, but it's possible.

Generic hose is fine. Bend is not tight enough to link the hose. You can absolutely replace the PCV, the hose, anything back on that side of the engine and not have to worry about the intake.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by cracked, butif its nothing significant, you could probably put a layer of black silicone gasket stuff over that are and reinstall until you could find a replacement.

It is kind of tight back there, but like stated above, you can replace without a problem.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Probably a better description is that the end split when I removed the hose. The hose is hard and probably has gotten to be a little brittle.

For now I will put some rtv sealant and replace the hose some time next week.

A tip I read somewhere was to heat the hose up with a heat gun before removing it so it will be less likely to split on the end.

Hmmm, I've never heard that. If its already dried out and brittle I'm not sure how that helps. In any case, if its split then definately pay attention for any vacuum leak hissing noise and idle issues.

Maybe my car is different, but I have plenty of room back there. Well, to me that's plenty of room. LOL!

Now, my Quest on the other hand..... maybe 2-3" clearance above the plenum. Have to access from around the side of the VIAS.

Perhaps I am calling it the wrong thing. It is the hard hose that connects to both of the valve covers on the passenger side.

I had to replace that hose also when doing the valve covers, as well as the PCV valve. I just removed the air box to give me more room, it makes it easier. Def don't need to remove the intake cover. The hose was super brittle and I had to tape it up when I put it back on since I didn't have a replacement. There were quite a few hoses I had to replace, as I had 225k when my valve covers where done.

replaced covers, gaskets, Coils, and plugs on mine a couple of weeks ago. Was no problem with guidance from posts on the org. Just took a big chunk of a Saturday to do it. Did not replace the hose in question. This thread gives reason to think that I need to look it over closely. BTW I also added a oil catch can when I had the IM off. Put it in that space behind and left of the IM. No longer smell burnt oil after sporting driving .
