2001 Maxi EGR code

So I recently bought an 01 GLE (I'm a new maxima owner) Anyhow I am reading p0403 (EGR circuit) on my car as well as a knock sensor code.. The problem is, this car was made in 10/00.. Which makes it an EGR delete if I am correct.. So I am pretty dumbfounded here.. Is there a substitute for the EGR in the computer? It is idling rough, having trouble turning over, sometimes takes 10 seconds, sometimes she'll fire right up, car is in limp mode while driving, when I get it out of limp mode and rev it it will only go to about 5-6k and will not budge any further, (sounds bad too).. When you gun the gas, it will cut out slightly for a half second, then it will catch and rev, sloppy of course... Running at about half power when I shut it off and start it back up to get the limp mode gone while driving.. And I'm getting about 10-13 miles a gallon.... Phew
Help!

This is a little interesting. The P0403 code is not listed in the 2001 service manual because the EGR valve was deleted. Maybe because your car was built in 2000, it does have one. You'll have to look under the hood and see if you have an EGR valve.

But your descriptions sound more like a MAF sensor, which have a nasty habit of not giving you a code.

I thought it was the MAF too myself, but the kid I bought the car off of insists it was put in a couple months ago.. I'll throw another one in I guess, see if it makes a difference.. And yeah that's what I heard too.. But come to think of it, he swapped the old vq30 for a new one when they threw the 5 speed in it.. So there's a possibility that it came from an 00 I just have to find out somehow..(I've been told it's from an 01) I've called Nissan and techs told me
There actually is an EGR of some sorts on the 01s, and to clean the hose that runs from the valve to the intake manifold.. I looked once but I didn't see anything that even resembles an EGR.. Where should I look specifically?
And is 01 motor 00 computer possible..? I'm trying to not rule anything out here

Heh, I have a decent idea of what may have happened.

Your ecu could have been swapped out for an 00

Here are some photos. The first one is the EGR valve and the second one is the location as it is installed in the car.

The following photo is looking over the driver's side fender.

Does the tube coming off of the EGR run up and into the bottom of the throttle body?

I took the throttle body off today for a P0505 code (IAC valve) and there was a tube that went into the bottom of the throttle body that was totally choked off with a hard black carbon-looking deposit. I scraped it out and I'm sure some of the crud fell down that tube.

I suspect it's coming from the EGR valve. Just looking for some verification of that. I think it'd be a good idea to remove the EGR valve and clean it too while I've got everything out of the way.

Thanks, Ron

Hmmmmm. I just went out in the garage and looked. Removing that is much easier said than done. I definitely do NOT have everything out of the way!

It looks like one of the coolant lines that goes to the IAC valve to warm it up comes off of the EGR valve. Am I seeing that right?
