Rattling noise

Ok this is broad.... Bring that it's only me and my son most of the time in the car.... Can't get help with it.... But there is a rattling noise that I hear while sitting but very faint.... But I really hear it while I'm not pressing the gas... Like if I'm driving at any speed and let go of the gas I hear the rattle... Any ideas I was thinking heat sheild but it sounds up front near passenger side?????

From everything I have read about rattling on this forum, it sounds like you may have pre-cat rattle. Both of the pre-cats are located pretty much where you described. My rattle situation is the opposite of yours. I hear a faint rattle around the 2000 rpm range while accelerating, but it goes away when my foot is off the gas. Still trying to figure it out. How many miles are on your Max?

Drive it up on ramps or jack it up, slide under the car and check the thin metal heat shields around the exhaust y-pipe and cats. There's so many of them and they are held on by tiny screws that rust out and you get rattle. Most times you can secure it down with wire. I've had my 3rd gen main cat heat shield come off while driving. My friend has a old 97 that's beat up and her exhaust rattles like crazy. I fixed some of it. I replaced the exhaust on both of my 97's too. Salt and rust kills.

Agreed with Quickywd01 - my exhaust is rattling too, usually just on initial acceleration. Moving it around on the rubber figure-8 exhaust mounts can also reduce some of that until you can find the loose heat shield.

I had something very similar and it was the passenger side motor mount. It made a rattling growling noise when coasting.

Mine has a rattling noise sometimes while on the gas. Almost sounds like it's coming from somehere behind the instrument panel. Happens sometimes while I'm on the gas in low rpm, if I let off it goes away. Doesn't 'rattle' everytime. Let me know what you find.

So while fixing my car today at a awkward moment I had my dad back it up and he closed the door and I heard the rattle and yes it was my heat shield.... Funny cause I'm always closing the door and u can't hear that loud noise from inside lol... Problem solved
