Rebuilding Motor?
Rebuilding Motor?
I have a fairly low mileage (25k-50k, I cant remember) VQ35 that has been sitting in the garage for ~3 or so years wrapped in a blanket. What are somethings I should look for and replace before attempting a motor swap in the near future? No matter how minute it may seem, I would like to have a comprehensive list before starting. Thanks!
I would be concerned about how rusty the cylinder walls are. You would have to pull the heads to check. If the fuel rails weren't drained, they could be filled with a jelly like residue from the gas evaporating. Then the fuel injectors would also be gooed up also.
Fresh oil and filter before you start it.

According to my Google research, checking for rusted cylinder walls was a big concern for cars that haven't been started for 10 years, I was hoping I could avoid that. But I suppose its better to be safe than sorry.
Important!!!!!!
Before you turn crank of engine which was not started for long time, spray 50/50 mix of ATF/kerosine(diesel fuel) in spark plug holes.
Let is soak for couple hours, then turn crank by hand.
Do not do any work such as removing heads etc., it doesn't make sense.
