Yes! I have got a 15$ tape aux and I fed it in then I pulled the wire throught the dash and it comes from center console so I would say it's kindof an aux!

On getting an aftermarket unit. You'll have more options that would improve compatibility and sound

A friend told be about oemautosound.com, but I haven't used them myself. They sell different cables and adapters that can connect something like an iPhone to a oem radio.

Trying a '00 or '01 sound system in an '03

I'm in the same boat. I just spent $600 on a Parrot apparatus that splices in between the head unit and the speakers. The sound is terrible as it doesn't get mixed properly and doesn't use the subwoofer.

I went this route because I don't care for the aesthetics of aftermarket units and I love the stock steering wheel controls.

The head units of the '00 and '01 had an auxiliary input for the 6-disc changer that was in the trunk. Now I'm thinking of trying to get an older model head unit and put it into the 2003. I'm curious if it'd fit without modification and if all the electronics would still function properly.

Any thoughts?

i wish i had steering wheel controls cause i have a double din pioneer touch screen avhp 3200 bt with all the goodies and wondered if i could swap steering wheels from a 5th gen to access the steering wheel controls? also, i only paid about 400.00 installed for my pioneer, if you add the speakers and the sub then it shoots up to 1,200 cause i got jl's and an alpine 5 channel sub. gotta pay to play.

I use a casset adapter to play music from my phone. I got it on ebay for literally under $2 and it works better than the $10 one I had. If I knew I was kepping my maxima longet than I thought, I would have put some money into a new radio from best buy or something. Or if you think you can wire the radio yourself go check them out on amazon.
