Getting into a 120k+ 5.5 need some advice

ok so some of you may know that i sold my 95 (bought a civic as a daily) and now i'm trying to come back with a 5.5 gen. my budget is 3kand that gets me 6spd maximas with 120k plus miles. the 1k maxima i was looking at earlier is horrible burning a qt every 2 weeks and wheel wells were rusted to ****. so buying a 5.5 gen with that kind of mileage is a little scary to me knowing they burn oil. i'm looking at 2 right now not sure what to do. not sure if its worth getting or i should keep my money and wait or buy something fun and cheap (suggestions? i was looking at this clean mazda mx-6 v6 http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/o...ationFlag=true

this one has 3 tiny rust spots from rock chips on the roof and a bit of surface rust right rear fender hlsd 145k mi burns a quart every oil change. can't find the ad right now but imagine exactly this not lowered http://forums.maxima.org/7631729-post23.html was listed for 4k a month ago and 3400 last week. he's willing to sell without wheels for 2600 but his pregnant wife is insisted selling with wheels so he texted me back sayin if there was a way i could take it with the wheels... you think 3k is fair?

second i haven't seen, says no rust, no idea what its lowered on i'm waiting for an email back http://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=588957865

I burn a quart every 4K or so. My car has 190K miles. It has not worsened to my knowledge.

If that is a common occurrence on the 5.5 gen that burns oil, then go ahead buy the car but just caution to the wise, is check your oil, I say at every time you fill up your gas so you can monitor it and check your oil more often than needed

I got my car at 185k. That was a chance to take with the whole oil problem. The truth is every 5.5 will burn oil some worst than others. Also depends on the people and how they took care of it before you.

Mine doesn't. I have 5k mile oil change intervals and I never lose a bit. It is always the same level as I previously filled it.

If it does burn oil then it is absolutely miniscule and inconsequential.

Same here but I do 3,000. I have an 02' with 170k. Non-oil burners are definitely out there--you just have to find them.

If you are worried about oil burning,i would be looking for a 2001 SE/Anniversary (VQ30DEK),mines has 320.000km and still no sign of dying,i have owned mines for 6 years and the same amount of oil that went in is the same amount that comes out,i know because i use the same Bottle to measure the oil,and believe me i redline the engine daily, this engine just won't die,and don't forget to check Rad support also, just done changing mines for $500

You have owned a 4th generation. You know they do not burn oil. So why buy a 5.5 that is prone to oil burning? Perhaps a 4th generation shipped from a non-rusty portion of Canada might be less trouble?
