Knock Sensor

Maybe this has been asked and answered already, but didnt find any useful info regarding the 5th gen, its been mostly the 4th gen. Has anybody relocated the knock sensor to an easier location on the block, or found a way to swap it out without removing all the b.s. to get to it? The Max has been sitting with a brake issue since January and I finally have a few extra bucks to get everything fixed. Brakes, rotors, calipers and struts are done, I'm down to the rear ABS sensor and this dreaded knock sensor on my list.

Keep it where it is if you want it to function correctly.

Dude parked since Jan....really thats like months ago you could have gotten all the stuff torn down for the top of the block, and took care of it first.

If the knock sensor is really a problem i dont understand your logic to leave it last if its essential for the engine performance, brakes rotors and struts are no good for a car that doesnt run "right". Imo

Knock Sensor

I just replaced mine (2002 Maxima SE). Disconnect battery (negative), removed the airbox if you have one. On the driver side fender look straight below the intake manifold between the front and rear cylinder valve. You need a small hand or a friend with small hand to removed the knock sensor bolt.

I think it is a little different for 01 compared to 02.

Nestorlugo: Dude, thank you very much for your unfounded words of wisdom. I live in Ohio, work 7 days week, do not have a garage, am 42 y.o. and have an '04 S/C Frontier. If you think I'm gonna go outside in 5* temps with 9" of snow on the ground, and tear into that car when I have an alternate vehicle to get to work......you're outta your mind. 20 years ago, I woulda done it in a minute, I wouldn't have had a choice. The car runs fine, only a slight hesitation. Being able to stop seemed MUCH MORE important. The ABS light is on, the code for KS came up on the scanner. Neither of which is keeping me from driving it to work now.

From what I understand, the function of the KS is to detect knock (vibration) and retard the timing when necessary. Hence the reason I was asking if anybody had relocated it closer towards the air cleaner side of the block.
