P0302, then P0306

2002 Maxima. Vehicle was idling a little rough. Eventually threw p0302. Cleared the code. Code came back again, 0302. Figuring it was the #2 ignition coil, I swapped it with #6 ignition coil to see if the code followed. Cleared the code.

Drove for a bit, threw 0306. Replaced the #6 ignition coil, and reset the code.

Car actually feels like it's idling worse and it threw another code. 0306.

I know people usually say that these coils are troublesome, but the fact that the code followed the coil had me convinced it was the #2 coil that was bad. Don't want to just throw parts at it if I should be looking at something else.

Thanks in advance.

You did the right thing. Cylinder 2 had a problem and you switched the #2 coil to cylinder 6. Then Cylinder 6 had a problem.

That means that the coil from cylinder 2 that is now on cylinder 6 is bad.

When you say it threw another code, do you mean in addition to the first code? Or instead of the first code? And how do the plugs look?

By threw another code, I mean it threw 0306 after I replaced the coil from cylinder 2 that was moved to cylinder 6.plugs looked ok, but the threads were a little wet with oil. Car only has 30k on it, but those plugs have been in since the car was built. Wondering if it isn't a valve cover leak or something at this point. Might change the 2,4,6 cylinder plugs for ****s and giggles.

But after you moved it, the 302 code went away and you now only have the 306. Or when you moved it, you still have the 302 as well as the 306? And if the valve cover gaskets were leaking, you'd see oil on the coils as well. I've read a lot on here and it seems people usually have oil in cylinder 5.

Originally, it had 0302. Moved #2 coil to cylinder #6. Cleared the code. Drove it, car threw 0306. Replaced the now #6 coil (originally #2 coil). Cleared the code. Drove it. 0306 came back.

p0302

Maxima engine are picky on sensor, to solve the problem you need to replace it with genuine oem nissan part. I replaced my Camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, and Ignition coil with Genuine OEM Nissan parts, bought it at Courtesyparts.com

The coil that was replaced was replaced with an oem coil. Didn't fix it. It seems like plugs did, however.

OK, so why did the misfire move from cylinder #2 to cylinder #6 when you swapped coils if the real problem was a bad spark plug in cylinder #6? Remember, the original problem was with cylinder #2...

FYI, just a rhetorical question in case the misfire code returns later in the month!
