AC Blower Issue w/ Climate Control

For the past two summers now I've had a problem where sometimes the AC fan takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes to come on. Seems to only happen in hot weather. I have the climate control in my I30. Fan speed setting does not matter and the compressor is working fine. There is a faint ticking noise with the fan on low.

Today after it not coming on for my 10 minute drive I hit under the glove box where the amp and blower are, and it fired right up.

My question is, based on the above, should I go with replacing the amplifier or blower fan first?

I pulled out the amplifier and it looked fine. Got it to start without ac, hit the fan housing on the bottom, and it came on, so I guess it's the fan.

Any recommendations on a replacement fan? I see some reviews for aftermarkets being louder or not as powerful.

FYI here is a nice guide for finding/repairing the amp:

replace the blower motor, probably want to get one with the wheel on it, if you can get one.

Blower replace

Hi, I just had this problem last week. I replaced the module and the relay but it ended up being the blower motor. Junkyard had one for 20.00 so I popped it in, not the exact one but it fit like a glove and back in business. Hope this helps the replacement at the parts store was $100-$120.

The amp died soon after posting this, I'm guessing from a bad blower motor. Got replacements for both from Advance for about $130 total with coupons and they work great. If I wasn't in the deep south I would have waited and repaired the amp myself...it was the thermal cutout.

The motor from Advance is made in Canada, and the amp is from Japan. Motor isn't any louder than original, but it did not come with a blade so I used my old one.

At least you're all set for the summer heat now.
