When do you shift

Ok very awkward post but who cares... Me and my friends argue about when to shift...

I shift at or around 2500-3000 rpm
My cousin shifts at 5000 rpm
My other cousin shifts right before the redline

Now I'm asking about normal driving.... When I wanna race I shift around 6500

What's your normal driving like????

I always shift under 2k rpm, otherwise, shifting at 5k rpm often will burn out the tranny quicker or worse, the rod bearing since I have seen that all too often who think they drive like it's NASCAR

From the looks of it, you're the logical one in the family.

There's no point in really red-ling since peak power on the 02-03 is at 5,800 rpm, 255hp. After that, the power starts dropping. I usually shift at 6,000 rpm when having a little fun. Less wear and tear on the engine too. For normal driving, I shift at around 3,000 give or take. its whatever you feel though.

I go nowhere past 3,000 rpm reg driving. Only when I speed up into the freeway I take it to 3,500. But when I want her to roar ill push her to 6,000 rpm

At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference. I usually shift between 2k-3k rpm on a manual for normal driving (lots of hills here so it varies).

I know some people that will go all the way thru the rev-band for normal driving as well (an not stomping on the accelerator revving...partial throttle revving). Could it increase wear on their car...maybe, but that's not my problem.

I never comment, but the last sentence has to be one of the best I've read. Drive it like you stole it man, that's what I do even when I know I shouldn't.

For me if I want to:
Maximize my MPG's I shift at 2K or lower
Drive Normal I shift anywhere below 3K rpm
HAVE FUN I shift anywhere above 3k normally close to redline.

POOR CARS.

WTF? What track are you on when you shift at these insane RPM's?

That's completely unnecessary shifting, wear and tear and fuel consumption. Even in my SS, my several Stangs and my C6, I never shifted like that.

To answer the question, I shift from 1st to 3rd, then to 5th and into to 6th if I can. ALWAYS under 2K. Fuel is $4.50+ a gallon here and I want to keep my car running for years to come.
