2002 3.5 AT Issue

Auto Transmission Issue
I was driving down the highway with CC on, and suddenly it turned off. I tried to put it back on and my "Set" light was blinking. Had the wife look at the owner's manual, and it looked like it was no big deal. Stopped at a fast food restaurant, and left. I was driving down the road at 50mph when going up a very small hill my transmission seemed like it popped out of gear even though the shifter was in Drive. Hit the gas, and nothing. slowly started to manually downshift to see what I could get. 1st was the only thing that would catch. This is the second time this has randomly happened. No known other issues. Tried to pull the TCM codes, but that did not get my anything. When I got home, and turned off the car for 5 minutes, I was able to put it in drive and move forward into the garage. Anybody have any Ideas? I am leaning towards the VSS , but I figured I would ask first. Thanks for the help in advanced.

Trasmission issue

I believe there are two speed sensor located in the trans. Try to clean it first and check the connection.

Yea, I have read the sections of the manual the pertain to this code. Nothing really said "hey, this is the problem". and everywhere else I read said this code is a tricky one. So we will see. Task for today, are to clean the VSS. And I might order one. They seem to be 1/2 the price as one at an auto store.

For sensors, always use the OEM Genuine Nissan part. The aftermarket sensor will get rid of the code but the problem persist. You can also use the OEM aftermarket parts by rockauto which is far better than the auto store parts. The book will not tell you anything because nissan stealership wants you to bring the car to them. Ideally transmission is better diagnosed by consult II of Nissan or any mechanic with high grade OBD scanner Snap ON with live feed and separate mode for transmission. To reach that sensor you need to remove the airbox, do not touch the throttle butterfly. After cleaning the sensor or replacing it, turn on only at least three times the ignition, then completely start the car. Doing this you allow the ecu to recognize the new sensor. I recommend to use Amsoil OE ATF your transmission will run smoother and cooler .

Just curious, why did you point out to not touch the throttle butterfly?

Throttle butterfly

VQ35DE have electronic throttle assembly controlled by ECU, if happen you move it . You might reset it by Consult II of Nissan Dealership or do it yourself by performing the throttle relearn. If failed to reset it , you need to buy a new throttle body. If this thing happen I advice you to buy the 75mm Wide bore Throttle body by NWP. Nissan dealership only sell remanufactured throttle body. I learned the hard way, I am not a member of org that time, I replace all the spark plug, ignition coil, valve cover and gasket by myself. The biggest mistake I did I spray liberally to the throttle butterfly a cleaner and move it, ended up with dead throttle body.
