Factory Stereo Replacement with PAC ROEM NIS-2 on 2000 Infiniti I30
I have a 2000 Infiniti I30 with the factory premium Bose system and I just got a new aftermarket Kenwood double DIN unit that I want to install. From reading other forums and online dsicussion threads I know the issues about using the Metra 7551 harness and that the PAC ROEM NIS-2 is a better option. I've ordered the PAC unit and the dash kit but I've also read about an Antenna adapter (40NI10 i think). Is the antenna adapter only used/needed when the Metra harness is used? I've looked on several, and I mean SEVERAL threads that mention the pros and cons of the Metra vs PAC but fail to mention whether the antenna adapter is used when installing a stereo with the PAC unit. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!!!

You need both. I replaced the factory Bose on my 2000 maxima gle about a month ago with a Pioneer double din. I used the PAC ROEM-NIS2 along with the Metra 40NI10 and it works great. I had the same curiosity and left the Metra antenna unplugged but found that the Pioneer would not function at all without the antenna installed. Once I plugged it in the radio worked. Also I noticed that the harness that came with the Pioneer included a blue wire labeled "antenna" and the tuner didn't work until I wired it into the ROEM-NIS2. So I believe you need both.
