Code p1564 help

Help with code P1564

I have a 2003 Maxima 3.5, 6 -speed.
I keep getting code P1564, it says it's the ASCD but my cruise control is working fine.

My question is do I have to replace the ASCD switch that's on the steering wheel ~OR~ the ASCD switch that's on the floor behind the clutch pedal?

Which switch am I supposed to replace?

does your cruise cancel when the clutch is pressed, or the brake pedal? do your brake light illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed?

most likely its cancel switch on the clutch, usually if its the steering wheel controls that dont work it wont pull a light because that it not an emergency cancel switch, if you can get ahold of a good scan tool, you can monitor the switch see if its turning on and off when the pedal is pressed and let off, or pull out the switch, and ohm it out both with and without the button pressed.

download section EC of the service manual and start reading on page 610. There is a trouble shooting guide that starts on page 613. You need to measure voltages, so I hope you have a voltmeter.

Thanks for the help guys....

I drove the car again today and now when I set the cruise control to On the SET light keeps flashing on and off so now I'm pretty sure it is the switch to the steering wheel and Cruise will not engage anymore. I'm going to order a new cruise control switch for the steering wheel. If that doesn't work I will follow the steps from above. One thing is I should probably disconnect the battery before replacing the switch on the steering wheel so the airbags don't go off huh..!? lol

Maybe the problem is the clockspring in the steering wheel. The clockspring is the name of the wires that twist when you turn the steering wheel. You will have to check the wire continuity.
