difference (?): OEM vs aftermarket gas cap
2010 Maxima SE, bought used with no service records or documentation. Last week I had Nissan green antifreeze and an OEM radiator cap installed. Though the vehicle passed inspection in March (which I'm told includes a gas cap gasket test) I'm wondering: if it (the gas cap) is as old as the car, should it be replaced with a new one? And if so, unlike the $25 radiator cap, can a fully functioning one be found on most reputable auto parts stores?
I'd read that silicone spray is suggested for the seal/gasket on gas caps. Not that I'm averse to spending the dough on a new cap, but seeing as how I've already got a can of that spray, what do you say on spritzing the seal?
Apologies in advance if question has been previously resolved; I went through 6 pages of forum threads looking for "gas cap" in the subject.

The fuel cap is designed to mitigate air pressure in the tank through very small vents in the cap (much like the radiator cap). I think they're only about $20 or so on Nissanpartsasap.com. The cost compared to an aftermarket cap is not that much, so I'd say just get the OEM one and don't risk getting a bad aftermarket cap. I just replaced mine with an OEM one and it's certainly helped abate the pressure build-up.
