Hey guys, first post here.

I've had my 5gen for a little over a year now. I took her in for a regular service and the tech told me my passenger side wheel almost fell off when they put in on the lift yesterday.
The control arm needs to be replaced.

I was looking for an opinion on what brand I should use. Any experience is greatly appreciated.

Moog FTW IMO.

Make sure you get the professional grade Moog as there are two types.

Don't know what is better but moog seems to be a top brand.

I've heard MOOGPro alot, but also hear their quality has been slipping noticeably recently. A good friend of mine is really impressed with the quality of his Deeza parts, I think they are from Turkey.

I was going to purchase through Rock, glad to hear I'm at least in the right spot! Gratitude guys.

I believe R series is the better one and the "problem solver" brand is the one that's ok to put on if you're about to sell the car.

 

Deeza is good. I put both Deeza arms on in 2010 (4th gen), and they're still going strong. Look just like OEM imho.

 

Any of the above brands are fine for OEM replacement. Out of curiosity, did you ever have a Power Steering leak? If so, it's VERY common for that leak to eat away at the control arm bushing rubber, which then leads to it requiring a replacement.

FYI Moog only makes one control arm. Their OTHER parts are what have different levels.

I wanted to buy OEM, but they were way too much up here in Canada, so I settled on a pair of Beck/Arnleys, and taking bumps feels so much more tolerable now with new bushings and ball joints.

 

I have an active power steering leak. Trying to diagnose whether it's the hose, pump, or the rack. The tech said they couldn't tell without cleaning and labor. I REALLY hope it's not the rack but it's leaking REAL bad. First issues I've had with it at all, just rolled 140k.

 

I see two separate MOOG control arms listed over at Rock. The R-Series and the significantly more expensive Problem Solver. Logic would imply the Problem Solver is the "Pro" line from MOOG, but obviously there seems to be some disagreement =D

Which should I get?

Didn't see a price right off so I was guessing.

The expensive one is the quality one.
So if problem solver is more expensive, it's the better made part.

 

It's the high pressure hose. Very common on 5th gens. $140 for the part. Get OEM ONLY. Do NOT get an aftermarket hose.

Then, fix the control arm. Otherwise you'll just eat away at the new arm.

 

This must be a new product.

CK series = problem solver. More expensive, better item. Looks like the ball joint is the problem solver greasable version.

RK = standard, which I've been installing for years without issue. Just as good as OEM if not better.

 

Awesome you guys have been super helpful. I'm going to order a MOOG Problem Solver control arm for around a hundred bucks.

I'm having a problem finding an OEM HPPS Hose though. Would a Gates brand suffice or would it just cause unnecessary whining, I've seen some debate on it.

OEM only for the HPPS hose or you will get a whine.

Courtesy parts or tri city Nissan are good Oem sites.

 

Hmmm, I may just have to deal with some whine, I really can't justify spending $250-$300 on an OEM HPPS.

I'm with you, I'm all for saving a buck where possible.

But there are some things worth getting OEM for, and some where aftermarket is superior.

It is WORTH buying OEM for this. And the HPPS is one of the very few parts in this category. Trust us.

 

Thanks for all the help, I was real scared how much this whole thing was going to cost when the tech started rattling off numbers.

Any idea where I could order one for that price? Or a part number I could track down? I've been to four or five major auto parts suppliers online AND through NissanUSA. Cheapest I found was $230, all the way up to $325.

Why do you guys think aftermarket hoses give off a whine and oem does not?

 

I checked out those four sites, cheapest I can find on the 2000 HPPS Hose is $197. Way better than MSRP, but I'll have some serious thinking to do before I order the OEM at that price compared to an $80 Gates. I trust you guys though prob just have to cough up the cash.

sorry bud...those are the least expensive I've seen for Nissan OEM.
I'm guessing there some slight but critical difference in diameter/length/specs that results in a different flow rate/pressure..ps, I just pulled that answer out of my butt

 

We dont think it will whine, i personally know it will whine cause i bought the edelmann hose and later bought the oem hose cuz i couldnt take the whinning

Mine is oem and it wines just idling.
Something there needs replacing I hope it's just the line that's leaking.


btw, is it the banjo bolt that leaks or the actual line? At the crimp?

Smaller diameter and it leaks at the line not the banjo. Im on my first high pressure line replacement (gates) I just replaced the return line too

 

What about replacing the bushings with energy suspension instead of replacing if they aren't bent or anything like that. What are the opinions of you guys??

 

This is the best solution. You can also get a nice ball joint while you're at it. And if you compare the price this is the cheapest!

 

^^ SOMETIMES pressing in new bushings into existing arms is more arduous than just replacing with a fresh arm.

All has to do with budget, requirements, time, priorities. Personal preferences prevail.

 

I purchased Evan-Fisher control arms. Having them installed this Friday along with new inner and outer tire rods.
