Reccommend Engine wash? Or nah?

Hey guys. Just wondering, is it a good idea to pay $55 for an engine wash at my local car wash? I opened my hood and it's pretty dirty all around... Is it cheaper if I do it myself or is it something one person can't do? Is it even needed? Just curious whether or not I should do it. Thanks

It's not needed, but it should be a requirement to show you care about your car.

$55 isn't robbery, but I'm sure you could buy a lot of simple green for that much and use your own elbow grease.

If you search I'm sure there are threads that will assist you in washing your own engine bay.

Haha alright. I agree, $55 seems a little too pricey.. With that much I could probably buy some cleaning supplies and do it myself

don't take me too serious (lol) but I'd save the cash if it were me. Also I find cleaning my car to be fun so I might be biased...

Soak it with simple green and wash it off. Repeat as needed. Done.

Doesn't hurt to do it yourself but if your not too familiar with your engine do a little research and take some precautions ie cover your air intake and coils etc. just be careful when rinsing or your next thread may be titled why won't my car start after cleaning/shampooing the engine lol

Agreed. Also, I wouldn't trust going to a car wash where they use their wands and spray all about the engine.. kinda dangerous for electrical connections and such

washing an engine is not worth the risk..It is only good for car dealers who need to sell a car.

I do it all the time.

Just block KS valley with a towel and cover the cone filter. power wash, don't even need soap. Done it on both my Maxima's since day 1.
