Im A Noob When It Comes To Audiow
Hows it going guys..
Ive spent this past week in Florida with a friend who has some subs in the back of his 4runner and its given me the urge to get a sub myself.
Already searched the .org and the Web and found very little. It may have something to do with the fact that im searching via a smartphone, rage on me if you must.
Ive got a 2001 SE without bose, however the deck that i put in for my window shade has the cutout for the bose sub.
Replaced the stock headunit with this about a year ago..

Id like to place a sub in the stock bose location. No exceptions. Im not looking to lose trunk space or shake the entire neighborhood, just looking for some more kick.
Im pleased with the sound I have with my current setup and dont really want to change my HU/door speakers if i dont absolutely have to.
Im also aware ill probably have rattling that will need to be dealt with. As for enclosing the sub i figured ill see how it sounds without it first. Then ill make my own if its necessary.
I guess the question i have is what sub/amp combo will go with my HU while fitting in that bose sub location?
Forgive my noobiness, id rather ask on here then waste my money and time on stuff that wont work.
Thanks in advance,

What you are looking for is called a free-air sub. You'll need an 8" sub to fit properly in the stock location.
As for amps, that will be dependent on the sub you pick, as they have to be compatible in terms of power output and impedance.
I recommend calling Crutchfield. They're very helpful and can help with product selections. Revert back with some picks and we can help narrow it down further.

If you just want a little extra kick, and the BOSE sub is sufficient, put a BOSE sub in there. I did it to my ex wife's 02 non-BOSE with a Kenwood deck. Just need to adapt from low level inputs to high level inputs. The BOSE sub has its own built in amp and worked great off the sub pre amp of the Kenwood. Cant remember the model no. of the deck, but it had an ajustable sub frequency: 80, 100, and 120 if I remember correctly.

I have never put a subwoofer in the nose spot, but crutch field has guides and write up for everything. If you just want to amp one sub get a mono amp with a little more peak wattage than your subwoofer would have.
I pump 1100w to a single coil of a kicker comp vc and it sounds really good.
