Is the band servo something I can remove while the trans is intact?

Long story short I'm having 1-2 hard shift 2-3 flare and now 4th doesn't want to engage and I'm getting a P0744. I have replaced the VB, solenoids and TCM yet nothing has changed. Now I'm wondering if I have a failure on the band control servo. I just dont want to take the chance the shoe for the band will drop rendering my still-drivable car undriveable.

Car is an 02 SE w/186,000 miles.
